Yeeeah 20 people or so applied early to MIT from our school, and 6 got in this year. One of my friends was accepted, and I'm really happy for her (and because she made us all fudge in celebration, yum!). And then a girl in my Anthro class was accepted, too, and a guy from my junior HUM II & my AP Gov class. Another sort-of friend was deferred, though, along with everyone else besides those 6.

I have friends who applied early to Cornell and Harvard, too. Harvard comes out Friday and Cornell comes out Thursday, so good luck to them and anyone who applied to either of those schools early. Duke sends it decisions pretty soon, too.

Man, everyone from my school applies to such prestigious places! My friends and classmates are all applying to MIT, Yale (they have a quota of 5 kids per year from our school), Harvard, Dartmouth, U. of Chicago, Cornell, Duke, Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, and other places like that, plus UVA as a "safety school." I know a fair number of people who're already into UVA ED. I just hope I get in there later this year.

DANG joogrlpekaun, what school do you go to? O_O

Apparently there was a question on MIT's apps that asked "what do you like to do for fun? and this is not a trick question" and one of the guys from my school that got in wrote "i like to pwn n00bs"

Anyways. All of us thought this one guy would make MIT because of affirmative action b/c he's hispanic/spanish/mexican/whatever + he's really smart, but he got deferred!

To give the official name:

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. rolleyes.gif Everyone just calls it TJ because saying the entire name is soooo...asinine. haha
It's in Alexandria, VA, and it's one of those public magnet schools where all the students were admitted based on a special test, essays, teacher recs, and extracurricular activities, so it's not so unexpected that people apply to really prestigious schools. We had 158 (?) Nat'l Merit Semifinalists this year, too, including myself. That's what happens when you admit based on test scores: you get people who ace standardized tests. But it's all good 'cause most of my classmates are really smart (smarter than me).

No ED for me.
