Piano, Harmonica, Guitar, Saxophone, Drums.
Of those, the only one I keep current and fresh with is the Piano. I love Frederic Chopin, Liszt, Tchaichovsky, and Scott Joplin.

I learnt piano for about 6-7 years when I was a kid, but stopped because I kinda got tired of practising. And like liljewelz, I used to play the recorder at school.

I'm not certain that I would count that.
If that were the case, sports referees might make the case that they are musicians.
And to extrapolate that further, Footlocker employees might claim 'musicianship by association'.
I don't think I would count the whistle as a bona fide musical instrument, lest it set an ill-advised precedent.

I was taught (and in this case really meaning forced) to play piano at 6? played for 6 years. Picked up violin in grade 2. Picked up the clarinet in grade 5 (though I wanted to play the sax). Haven't touched a clarinet after grade 10, and haven't touched a violin in 4...I miss playing the violin, not so much the others~

I've been playing the guitar since 5th grade (thats like...10 years now?), bass since 8th grade, drums since 9th grade, and I have no idea when I started playing piano. Sometime in high school I suppose. I am self-taught though. I never really took any of those instruments too seriously.

i play the piano ever since 5 years old. still playing, but on my own. always got to book a room in my uni to practice. but i stopped lessons about 4 years back. i wanted to get a diploma in performing actually.
i play the guitar too. learnt it for about 3 years or so... sometimes i still play at my friend's place, but not that often, cuz i left my guitar back in my hometown, so i do not have convenient access to it.

I tried when I was a kid (always been fascinated by percussions) but I really started playing when I was a teenager thanks to friends who played professionally (gave tours etc...) and allowed me to sneak in their band from time to time. That was in France, and mine was a gift and is still there. Will get it back once I move all my stuff here.
You can find Djembes easily in the Bay Area, especially if you live in San Francisco.

I saw some in a shop in San Leandro but didn't buy any. Some community colleges even offer classes, which makes learning how to play affordable.
edit Check Adama Drame's music. He is one of the best musician. I saw him perfom at an international gathering in Paris (there were drum/djembe musicians from all over the world, liteerally from the 5 continents), it was mesmerizing!!!
