I'm proud to say I don't do both.

Drank a couple of times in college and that's about it.
Aziraphale
I usually drink when I go out with colleagues or friends.

I don't smoke. I hate the stench of smoke.
saharial

plus I drink when I got depression, it's a sort of an escape for me

I don't smoke, because I can't. Tried to, but it's so bitter.
In the winter and depressive times, I really am want to smoke when I saw other people smoking.... just because it looks releaving unsure.gif

Even the occasional wine or liquor doesn't mean you don't drink so I hope you voted for "I only drink."

I only drink.
I tried smoking once, back in high school in the boys bathroom stall.
I was so nervous, having bummed a cigarette and attempting my first drag while I was doing my business.
But I dropped the still-lit match and the lit cigarette onto my exposed lap and damn if I didn't burn half my pubic hair off.
Thank god I didn't severely burn myself, but geez my pubic area looked like I was being shaved for surgery and halfway through it, my insurance ran out. mellow.gif

Anyway, no - I don't smoke.
losborrachos
yes and yes... it's more of a social thing esp. w/ drinking and i never got addicted to smoking (i.e. i would just stop smoking for four months at a time when circumstances wouldn't allow me to do it but when i'm allowed to smoke i do it regularly)...
light
I do neither. I've never tried them as well.

Eli, you are funny. smile.gif

I don't smoke, and I drink casually. Sometimes I had a beer late at night at home while surfing soompi. So if you see I'm posting some weird things at that time, you know why. wacko.gif

i drink when i'm out with friends
and i only smoke when i'm super depressed...(but that hasn't happened in a long time so it's good!)
mangoicy
I don't drink because I have allergic reaction to strong alcohol... seriously, drinking one shot of anything will give me rashes all over my body, it's not a pretty sight, trust me, and it would lasts for days too *sigh*.

I don't smoke as well.. never interested to anyways, and besides, none of my close friends smoke. so yeah.
PaNgIeE
Don't drink or smoke. Yeah....boring, huh? Oh well...

I party great sober tho..hehe..
mrs. pakman
i drink...but not to get drunk. so only occassionally.
as for smoking...does hookah count? but even that...i don't do often.
shiwi
social drinker right here. love enjoying the occasional drink with friends.
cksdayoff
social drinker, and I quit smoking.
Tuffcore
I don't smoke but I'm a sucker for ice wine smile.gif
Majah Flavah

I'm a social drinker, and I will never ever touch a cigarette.
Tr710
I don't drink much, once or twice a year. But I'm beginning to drink more in recent months.

I smoked once or twice, too. I was really depressed so I thought it would help; it didn't!!! My lungs nearly colasped from coughing.

neither

smoked for five years - every other pack was "my last pack" and finally had quitting success with a combination of cold turkey and cigars.

yes/yes
i became more like social smoker now ..i only smoke when im drinking .
melkimx
i drink socially, but that can be a misleading phrase because in the past i would "drink socially" by getting plastered four times a week. now really i only have a drink if i go out in the evenings because it's what you're expected to do. i never really liked the taste of alcohol, and secretly i would prefer a diet coke, but come nighttime, i think it makes more sense to have a depressant such as alcohol than a stimulant such as caffeine, so there you go.

i grew up watching my parents smoke and it just never looked (or smelled) appealing to me.

Here's my philosophy toward alcoholism, "you're not at alcoholic unless you drink alone."

Interesting.
My philosophy is somewhat similar, but it goes more like this: "You're not an alcoholic unless when you drink, people leave you alone."

I don't smoke and I don't drink.

Yeah... my "last pack" has lasted for about a year... mellow.gif

I've tried the gum and the patch, but I think my problem is boredom. It's really hard to quit when you have nothing to do all day. Cigarettes are the friend(s) that I know are soooo bad for me, but good to have around when there's nothing better to do.

I also drink. The amount I consume goes through phases. Before I left Atlanta, I drank, smoked, and ate fast food everyday because we didn't have anything better to do until my s/o began his new job in CA. Once we moved, I still drank quite a bit, but it wasn't every night of getting drunk like it was before, and it was also directly related to smoking. See, every weekend for the past 5 months or so we've said we were going to quit. And of course we needed to go out in style -meaning a few bottles of champagne. After a while, we concluded it was an ineffective and expensive way to go about things, and I think we also reached a point where we are really sick of alcohol, period.

Anyway, all those months of unhealthy living has caught up to me, and I can barely fit into my pants anymore. I’m hoping fasting, going to the gym, and eating uber healthy will help me quit smoking. Drinking is not a problem; it was always something to do to fill time, nothing I’ll have a problem abstaining from… but if I do it at all, I’ll want to smoke too. So, yeah. Tomorrow I’ll stop. Yup. Really.
BloodPrincessShiroto
I drink all the time, I used to smoke, but i don't anymore.
JJM
I drink socially, but I have a 2-drink maximum. No smoking for me, but unfortunately, the bf has a bad habit of that and ever now and then.. I get a whiff of it and he gets a bad stare-down from me.
system
After 10 years of smoking, I decided to quit this year and I've been smoke-free for 17 days.

I try not to drink so much to the point where I start acting like a fool, but it happens 1 out of 5 occasions.
Damn, I got issues. laugh.gif
chairmanK
I have one bottle of beer or one glass of wine almost every day. On weekends, I may have two or three drinks with dinner, which is enough to get me tipsy but not drunk. I get truly drunk about ten times in a year. I only smoke when I'm truly drunk; most of the time I have absolutely no desire to smoke.

I can imagine life without smoking, but I can't imagine not drinking. I think that it's good for me get drunk once in a while. I have a reserved, perhaps cool demeanor most of the time, but the loss of inhibitions when I'm drunk makes me openly show my warm feelings towards my friends and family.
JaiNYc
I drink and I smoke - sometimes too exessively.
NGF
No to both.

Reason 1: both alcohol and smoking increase the likelihood of developing certain types of cancer.
Alcohol increases the likelihood of developing cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, and stomach. And, of course, there is cirrhosis of the liver. I remember a newstory a while back concerning the correlation between the alcohol content of mouthwash and the likelihood of developing cancer of the mouth. I chuckled to myself about that. Why were people concerning with just gargling with alcohol when ingesting alcohol is a social norm?
The correlation between smoking and lung cancer is pretty much in everyone's face nowadays (almost annoying, imo).
Of course, we are talking about correlations. Not all users of alcohol and tobacco will develop cancer.

Reason 2: substance addiction can really mess up your life and the lives of those around you.
I worked in addiction research (alcohol and drugs) a while ago which involved interviews of users (at various levels of usage/addiction) and the people around them. While some folks are pretty functional, others really lose it. Sucks for the people around them, too (ex. family, friends, coworkers, etc).

Personal experience: I tried both smoking and alcohol when I was very young (maybe 2nd grade), out of curiosity. Neither tasted or felt good. I was a bio major with one of my minors in sociology (specializing in social deviance: crime, drugs/alcohol, etc). Seems like use of tobacco and alcohol isn't a very healthy practice but it is, unfortunately, a common social practice.
cksdayoff
I've also "quit" smoking several times but its so damn hard when you're out drinking with your buds and they start lighting up their cigarettes in front of you. It was so tempting and I gave in quite a few times. Having a cigarette or two, or three....or four while drinking alcohol makes the experience a lot better I guess.

But its been close to two months, maybe a little bit more since I had my last cig. I feel great cool.gif

Reformed alky. I drank and smoked a lot when i was younger. I thought it was cool, and it's mostly for social acceptance. I never thought about the consequences because i didn't have any direction or hobbies to motivate me to quit. <fast forwarding to now> Haven't smoked in almost 8 years. My endurance is definitely affected by it still, but i'm working hard in the gym and participating in sports to re-tune my body. I quit cold turkey. My uncle died of complications from cirrhosis of the liver. 2 of my friends also suffered dearly from it. I fortunately didn't reach that stage, but the affects were more social rather than physical. Kinda ironic considering I thought drinking would help me become more social. I became dependent on it, and I also acted like an arse when I was drunk. After throwing up on a girl, passing out on another (very cute girl which proceeded in spreading rumors about me to her entire sorority), my life and career also weren't going any where, it was time for reflection and resolution.

I found new passion in hobbies, I set new goals and achieved them. A big turning point was doing community service in coaching youth hockey. The kids looked up to me as a role model, and that was extra motivation to quit. Mind over matter. With that, i'm not completely dry, but i'm completely in control when I drink. Haven't been drunk/thrown up/acted irresponsible in a looong time. A couple glasses of wine, beer over dinner, and friendly pong matches, that's it.

Not meant to sound "parental". Just a good opportunity with a thread topic like this to pass on an experience. It's a lifestyle, and we live in a free world to make our own choices. Well, most of us anyway.
mygurl
its no harm if you drink as long as don get drunk thats enough...smoke??? i hate the smell... wink.gif
truestar
I don't drink or smoke...well, I have the occasional drink when I'm out but I usually don't

For now, I drink socially. With Drinking comes smoking, but I don't just do it socially. I was planing to stop, and I did for few a months, but lately I'm felling a bit "down," so i've indulge myself with some cancer sticks.
rahrah
i do both, but i am rooting for the "i do neither"'s to win... haha

I'm truthfully surprised to see "I do neither" is leading. I thought "I only drink" would run away with it but I guess not.
Dj AwDaMaDDiX
Oy what can I say. I'm surrounded by people who do it every other night.

Even if I weren't working there...I'd still be doing it lol.

<3 my free all night long drinks. Vodka redbull splash of cranberry mmm

can't forget about my camel lights!

I stopped smoking marlboro lights because of the fiber glass filter, gave me bronchitus like crazy... camel cotton filters are cool, I don't cough out that nasty stuff no more.

I try to be a drinker but I really can't. I CANNOT STAND THE TASTE OF ALCOHOL. No matter what kind it is, I end up finding it bitter and nasty. The only time I was able to consume any is those fruity drinks. I only had two at weddings. oO Actually, weddings are the only time I tried it. I don't drink at all.

As for smoking, nope. My brother is a smoker as well as my father. Through them I found it to be nasty as well. I can't even stand guys who I date to be smokers. I won't kiss them! ph34r.gif

you should try something like smirnoff lime, yum!

as for myself, i see no harm in consuming a drink here and there. In fact, studies have shown that a glass of red wine can go a long way to improving cardiac health into the future. So for me, it's the occasional glass of wine or bottle of beer during dinner.
vanness77
I used to smoke regularly and drink occassionally...now I cut the smoking, i drink occassionally, only wine & champagne...
OsiX
i do neither (mostly) -> like i'd only drink on a special occasion
Evigilant
Both.

My drinking is getting more depressingly erratic while my smoking is leveling off and diminishing. Trading one for the other?
asianguyno2
Drink of course. I was a CPA in a former life. haha

Don't smoke but I've had a cigar or two in my life.
