I'm still a senior in High School so I don't have a credit card yet.
However, I do plan on getting one.
What credit card(s) do you have or use? Any debts or bad experience with them?

I have a couple of platinum MasterCards. I had one since 1988 and the other one since 1991.
So basically, I have had a credit history that's been around longer than some soompi members have been alive.
I used to have an American Express card, but I realized that having too much credit can be a bad and tempting thing. So I just closed it way back in the mid 90's or so.
As for bad experiences, nothing out of the ordinary: I racked up a pretty good debt during those formative college and post-college years and then spent the remainder of time being financially disciplined and paying it all back. Thankfully, I've gotten it all paid off and I'm now debt free.
Since you're a high school senior, it's shouldn't be a big deal that you don't have a credit card right now. Personally, I think it's when you're in college that having one is beneficial - especially if you plan to be away from home. But when you do, just don't go crazy and try to stay disciplined. Yet, I understand that this is easier said than done.

I only have one credit card - a Vancity Visa card. Honestly, I only got one to build up a credit rating. I use it for paying tuition fees and books during the beggining of each semester and online shopping at times. Aside from that, I use my cash (tips from work) or my debit card.
Debts and bad experiences - none. Luckily I've been able to afford my post-secondary fees and supplies through scholarships and bursaries. Also, I don't believe in buying goods that are out of your budget - if you don't have the means for it, and you don't need it, don't get it. It may change until when I get older though and my responsibilities and expenses build up, but luckily, I'm alright right now.

Yep, a platinum credit card. I mainly use it for in case of emergency. Usually I just stick with my debit to keep track of my money and to refrain myself from overspending.

Nope.
I'm 14 & I don't think I ever plan on having one.
I think it would be very hard for a person like me to pay all those debts back. TT_TT

I just got one not long ago... Let's just say I am already in debt but I pay more than the minimum required everytime, and I've stopped using it too so I'll be able to pay it off soon.
I use it mostly to pay stuff online... I don't use it often in stores or restaurants here, because I have a debit card. :X
Oh and I'm finishing college (eehh Quebec school system is different, but I'm also 20).

Ive had one since the end of freshman year, & Im a Junior now.
I use Visa and i've never been in debt. Probably why I got one so early.

I'm a spender so I'm scared of myself...it's sad really that I can't help myself and can have sudden urges. I'm not even rich, honestly...I work part time and pay most everything myself already and yet I don't think I've learned the value of money because I find myself not saving enough---so I must refrain from credit cards.

I have 2 credit cards: Citibank mastercard and a Wamu mastercard. I've had both for about 2 years now.
I'm planning on applying for another one.
Once I get my third one, I'm planning on strictly putting limits on the cards. One card would be for school, another on charity/health bills, and the last one for entertainment.
My main goal is just to increase my credit score.
Any bad experiences? Well, I only have a small debt to pay. I've never been late on a monthly payment.

You're a senior in Highschool...you shouldn't have one yet?
I don't have one and I'm ending my freshman year of college right now...
Honestly, I don't trust myself with a credit card- I know I'd just spend without thinking...credit card debt is so scary, but you need credit when you want to buy a house or a good car later in life :x

i'm 18 and a senior in hs. i have a bank of america credit card....no bad experience so far. it really depends on you though....if you know to limit on how many times you're using it...then you'll be fine. but if you don't and just keep swiping it...then there's a problem. just make sure that if you do get one, limit on how many times you're going to use it....if possible...use it for emergencies only!!!

I'm a junior in college and I've had a credit card starting my freshman year. Many younger people who have a credit card don't actually pay the bill (their parents pay it) - so my advice is that if you want one - I would suggest you take full responsibility for it. I'm pretty good with money since I only spend what I have - I think it's better to have a credit card just to test yourself - a debit card is kind of annoying to see all those charges on your bank statement.
Also - ALWAYS pay the full statement amount because if you only pay the minimum balance - they will charge you interest every month.
But if you're not good with controlling your money - I would say just use a debit card. I have a lot of friends who are in credit card debt....
Bad Experiences:
But actually once I had my identity stolen...so just make sure you're not using your card in shady places (even though I used my card at a PetCo -__-). So basically what happened was I got my bill and there was $1,000 worth of money spent at a Toy'sRUs that wasn't my charges...so I called the company and they said that there had been about 200 credit card numbers stolen from a PetCo store...and some employee made fake cards to spend the money. So they erased my account...gave me a new number and new card and some detectives called me to ask if I remembered any employees the time at the store etc....
Freshman year I almost ran out of money but not with credit card debt but in my checking bank account - I had to call my mom to send me the money I left with her (I leave my money with my parents to make sure I have some extra in case of anything)
EDIT:// OH yea - I use a Citibank - Dividend Platnium Mastercard
It's pretty good because I get like 1% cash back on every cent I spend...basically get $10 for every $1000 I spend - I"ve gotten like $100 back already...not that much but it's something...I only have one because most people have two just to have more money to spend.
Some cards have higher rates of cash back too! And 5% cash back on gas/grocery stores/pharmacies...look for a good deal!

i don't have a credit card but i do have a debit card. i've had one since the beginning of senior year because there was a special offer for college-bound kids from bank of america. i'm probably not going to get a credit card. i'd go bankrupt with it.

i don't think you should look at a credit card.
i use an debit/credit card.
the card can be used as a credit card when i want to make large purchases. there's a $300 limit on the card, so if it's stolen, the thief can't do big damage.
the debit/atm part of the card allows me to easily make smaller purchases.
