thats a good list of bands there. listen to a lot of them myself.
The Draytones are a really good band, so check them out on Myspace. they're kinda Beatles-esque/garage and Blood Red Shoes, which is a girl/boy duo who play some pretty awesome tunes. you can just search these bands on Myspace.

NB: The Strokes are American and Wolfmother are Australian, but top bands nonetheless.

and by any chance, do you read NME?
wee33

Ah my friend's the lead singer of a band who have supported the Switches they're called "little thief" but they're not big yet or anything.

i love the video of the song, directed by chris cunningham. he also directed 'sheena is a paraside' by the horrors.

Hard-Fi are pretty good. got their album Stars of CCTV. cash machine is probably their most well-known song.
Bloc Party are incredible, though i missed out on a chance to see them live. though from the Youtube videos i've seen, they're pretty awesome.

the best way to find UK bands is the NME. looooove their NME Radio. its the best!
GetM0tivated

MUXU
^do you live in england? ohmy.gif
lucky b__ch dry.gif biggrin.gif

im going to london this fall
babiesburn
Uh, Radiohead? Probably one of the biggest influences today on bands both in the UK and elsewhere. And deservedly so.

The Smiths (so, so mopey)
Travis (pre-The Boy With No Name...bleh)
Franz Ferdinand (dance rock!)
Mew (unfortunate nominal association with a certain Pokemon, but great "out there" music)
The Clash (der)

Okay, so maybe these aren't all indie. Still worth a mention.

chocolaatje
this REALLY needs an up!

currently loving the wombats, the dykeenies, neon plastix and of course still arctic monkeys.
haha its so funny to read here, that i've never heard of look see proof before a few months ago. And now they are getting big! I'll update the list in a bit! =D

spacebattles
i love UK bands so much, too many to name them all here -but recently i've gotten really into editors. being a hardcore interpol fan i was holding off on listening to them -but now i think they're really great in their own right
petit_charat
wow, i forgot this thread existed haha...i've been getting into so much Australian indie music i haven't been paying as much attention to the UK bands coming out..
I just checked out your last.fm LANOZ' and you've got some awesome taste in music (mine is sputnik-77). i can't believe you like The Physics as well! i thought they were a really small indie band.. they're song 'bulimia sisters' and 'networking' are brilliant.

i know this is like 5 months overdue, but how was it seeing The Pigeon Detectives? they're amazing.. love their stuff.

and yes, Arctic Monkeys still rock because they are just an amazing bunch of guys. Seeing them live completely blew me away with their sheer awesomeness....gah, i could keep on talking about the arctic monkeys gig forever cos it was so goood.. i have to go see them again when they come back to oz. and i cannot wait for Alex Turner and Miles Kane's new album..it should be coming out early next year!!

=]
tengosuds

Also, i know you mentioned "new" bands, but some of the best stuff is the old stuff, and it SO deserves a mention. its CLASSIC BRIT ROCK PEOPLE!!!!! i put a star next to all the old stuff though just in case you have a strange adversity to music produced before you may have been born.
i think radiohead and muse were mentioned...RIGHTLY SO!!
Calvin Harris isnt a band but....good?
Thats all i can think of for now, i probably dont even like some of the bands i listed, its just the first ones that came into my head. DEFINATELY check out the classic stuff.
LANOZ'
@petit charat:

GO LISTEN TO IMOGEN HEAP!!

my new love <3

formerly 'frou frou'

I've always liked her Frou Frou album better than her Imogen Heap releases. The lyrics are more mature on her Frou Frou albums, I think. As to British indie bands, I really like Camera Obscura. Most people will probably hate them though. They have sort of a '60s feel to their music. British bands in general, my favorite's Oi Va Voi (disregarding their latest album). Very unique album to listen to. It's a blend of klezmer, gypsy, hip hop, rock, and classical. There really is no way to explain what genre they are part of. Nonetheless the music's good. And thanks for the list too. Now I have more music to explore. happy.gif
LANOZ'
hihi thats cool ~!
well, i really like oi va voi!:D
petit_charat
camera obscura are actually quite good. that sort of relaxed feel they have to their tunes are preferct for relaxing n stoof on a sunday arvo. check out 'The Bird and the Bee'..they have similar sounds to camera obscura.

The Hoosiers!? gah! LANOZ' i am green with envy =P... it's poo living here in Oz where you can't get to any UK bands' gigs.. unless i want to fly all the way there. although, i am trying to support as many local/independant Australian artists as much as i can..woo!

yay for UK artists!! i hope to go to the UK one day and go to a couple of gigs. need a lot of $$$ though...

edittt...

The Wombats is an incredible band. think of Jamie T x3.. their lyrics are witty and funny as.
tengosuds
you're so lucky LANOZ' i bet the hoosiers are amazing live, they have such incredible energy and they seem like such jokers.
yeah i live in the UK, London to be more specific.

IM GLAD this topic isnt specific to new bands, got much love for the classic brit rock. ill be back with more bands soon but im in a rushhhhh right now
yongwonhi
where do you guys get this music?
all i can ever find is asian music LOL
yled
there's not enough travis here plz.

Cd's: The boy with no name
Twelve Memories
The man who

omg. love them. so much.
petit_charat
Travis are a good band too! Love their stuff. Fran's voice is just amazing... loved their cover of Britney Spear's 'Baby One More Time'... that was bloody hilarious.

yongwonhi - Myspace. that's a good place to start, just search the band's names and voila! indie music goodness! And Last.Fmm which let's you preview music and find other bands/artists similar to them and their sound..

=]

OH, anyone else like The Jam? Paul Weller is an absolute legenddd
tengosuds
the jam are INCREDS.
and so are travis.
AHHHHHHHH so much good music
hschoe
what about super furry animals?
i love their song "runaway"
starlight24
I love Travis!!! Fran is tooo cute! happy.gif

Has anyone mentioned Muse here? This band is amazing!!!! Ahhhh you can't go on in life without knowing them, lol.

Some standout songs:

~Time is Running Out
~New Born
~Hysteria
~Stockholm Syndrome
~Plug In Baby
~Butterflies and Hurricanes

So much more...but that's off the top of my head!
ChairmanLMAO
lol, I was just about to say, how come no one has mentioned Muse but you beat me to it. Let me add some more to the mix:

Verve
Radiohead
Lostprophets
Muse (all of their albums are amazing!!)
Ocean Colour Scene
Oasis
Orbital (Dance, techno)
Massive attack

I actually went to the Verve's gig last Thursday at the O2 stadium and they were blinding! Still top notch after all these years...great comeback and I just cant get enough of the song "Lucky Man".
starlight24
Yay another Muse fan! biggrin.gif

Their music is like nothing else. What's your favorite album?
ChairmanLMAO
Origin of Symmetry just edges it for me, great guitar riffs and heavy lyrics. Amazing how its just a 3 piece band...how does Matt play and sing like that! Crazy. What about you, whats your fav album?
petit_charat
Muse are a phenominal band. Origin of Symmetry is my favourite album too! It's just got killer tunes and Matt's guitar is just insanely awesome.

OASIS.. my second favourite band ever. I got into them only a couple of years ago (a bit late i know..) but they just blow me away with their awesome sounds. Noel's lyrics are fantastic but his voice is just the best. But i gotta give Liam some credit cos he's the one that made me love Oasis in the first place. I've never seen them live (thanks to stupid age restrictions here in Oz) but i would love to one day, cos they seem really good live.

The JAM...i wish i were alive when they were still a band..

anyone else into The SMITHS?
