The Girl Who Leapt Through Time 時をかける少女
"Makoto Konno, a girl attending high school in Tokyo's shitamachi,
gains the power to go back in time and re-do things (the time-leap) when she gets involved in an accident
at a train crossing one day. A little bewildered with her new powers at first, Makoto uses them extravagantly
to avoid being tardy and to get perfect grades on tests, but soon things begin to turn bad as she discovers how
her actions can adversely affect others."Movie Clips: Trailer 1 Trailer 2 Did anyone watch this movie? I saw the trailer on a Korean TV show and now I really want to watch it.
EDIT: I just finished watching the movie! Thanks to ASIANRICE who gave me the link to download the movie (thanks so much, again).
I just have to say that it was the best movie ever...it left such a huge impact and the story is just beautiful
The movie was really deep and in my opinion I don't think it was cliche at all, well a bit but not too much.
I really recommend this movie, take the time and download. You won't regret it-Heres some caps.

Just finished watching it.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Maybe not quite as thought-provoking as some of, say, Miyazaki's films, but entertaining nonetheless.
One thing that definitely irks me: (not a huge spoiler)
they never fully explained the significance of the painting within the movie.
Anyone here who's read the manga series (prequel) that can shed some light on this? (along with the background of Auntie Witch)

I've watched this movie some time ago. I really like it. It seems this story has been animated and made into movie/drama many times.
And I really like the insert song a lot. I wish they made an anime serie out of this instead of just an anime movie.
I haven't read the prequel because I couldn't find but what I do know, picked up from another site that the aunt
was a timeleaper too
.

There were no boring parts and the movie overall was just.... how should I explain? Eh, I was just speechless on how good it was. I just wish there was more about Chiaki.
Everyone should watch it, definitely one of the best anime movies i ever watched.

I have a really curious question: How did she get another chance to time leap in the end?
I thought she couldn't time leap anymore because she
used it all.

Jun 18 2007, 02:46 PM
^ yeah, i was wondering about the same thing too after i watched it for the first time. so, i rewatch the entire movie again and towards the end when she discovered that she had another chance to leap through time she said something like it was because Chiaki able to go back in time and that is why she was able to do so.
yes, i'm a bit confuse with this too, if anyone dont mind explaining the real deal that will be great

the significant of the painting and the reason Chiaki want to see it so much, i believe is because in the future there's a lot of war going on and he mentioned that this drawing allow him to get some inner-peace within himself. so, that must be why he travel through time just to take a look at it and painted this piece of art in his mind.
however, it is a wonderful story. it's been a while since i saw a movie (anime) that was as good as spirited away.
anyway, in the end Makoto said she has decided what she wants to do and when Kousuke asked "what?" she replied "secret.".
just want to know if you guys have any ideas on what she meant by this. i think she wants to
be a painter, since she promised Chiaki to take care of it
i'm guessing if a painting couldn't even last that long into chiaki's time, i don't think makoto would live long enough to be able to see him either. how depressing.

I've been looking for this movie all over!
TWO YEARS LATER... I FINALLY WATCHED IT! -dances around-
I loved the artwork. Reminds of Hoshi no Koe and that other one that the same guy did. Not quite sure what it was called. All three had the huge fluffy white clouds just rollin on by...<3
I was kind of depressed with the ending and I was on my seat going "Nooooooooo whaaaat!" Total Makoto reaction right there.
There was an interesting message though. Time waits for no one.
As for the painting issue, the way I interpreted it was this:
The painting that the Aunt was restoring was the painting that Chiaki came back in time to see. So indirectly, Makoto got a chance to see the painting...and I'm guessing her 'secret' job is to be a historian type of person like her aunt and store the painting for the future generations.
But the one thing I didn't get was...MAKOTO AND CHIAKI LIVE IN DIFFERENT ERAS. "I'll see you in the future" is IMPOSSIBLE. How on earth are they going to fill the gap in the middle!? After Chiaki recharges then comes back to Makoto again!? And why exactly did he HAVE to leave. I mean it's not like he was in danger or anything right? They didn't even have a penalty for him by revealing it to someone in the past.
I'm so lost. Is there an English version of this book? X_x
