I wanted to get a digital camera for my sister who'll work for ASB (associated student body) as a historian. I guess I just want one that takes good pictures, but doesn't look too bulky. I did some research and came up with:

Sony DSC-W55

I read comments about it having blurry pictures because it didn't have the image stabilizer option, but is that option THAT important? I mean, will all of my pictures come out blurry?

I also saw a lot of positive feedback for Canon PowerShot A570 IS but it's a bit bulky... and not very attractive, although it has more features and is cheaper.

Which one would you guys pick? Do you guys have any other recommendations?

Thanks for your input!

if you have good lighting, then you should be ok with the sony. so it depends on when you use it. personally, why get a camera if you cant get nice shots? unless you take it around like accessories that is. try using the sony at a store. if it's good enough for you, then get that. you'll get much more keepers with the canon tho

hey duno if its too late but def the w55.... the pix arent blurry if you use macro's & flash mode which guarantees clarity but it just takes a lil longer to snap....... i have it in silver.. same absically and i liked it a lot... i LOVE sony lol

I like the ergonomics of the canon A570 better. Bigger handle means better grip and it runs on AA batteries which is a big plus when your traveling. You won't have to worry about buying plug adaptors when your in a country with a different charge.

I'd say the Canon PowerShot A570 IS. The IS (image stabilization) is really nice.

I have the Sony DSC W55 (the pink one XP) and I don't find that it takes blurry pictures, in any mode ... it's really easy to use; I'd definitely recommend it.
