hmm...i had a chance to ride in the passenger yesterday on the spider...
it's my sis's friend car...., instead, i chose to ride on the scion tC, cause i was thinkin of getting it, so i wanna check it out....
both race, and the spider won...i was a bit disappointed XP
scion goes perferably for show only...i love the look, it's so nice.
probably next week ill ride in the spider and check it out.
and see its performance =]

The MR spider is definitely faster than Scion, because it is just lighter.
I think Toyota did a half ass job on MR Spider, however if it had a the Celica GTS motor in it, it would be a different story.

the car has good potential with a different motor. i'm not a fan of toyota motors to begin with, so i agree with v8subie to swap a k20 in it. i think with a hardtop they look pretty nice

In a business sense, Toyota is doing well with the Scion sales. It's new strategy is working for them. Profitability is key for them.

Toyota never got any good sales from the MR2 or the Supra so they discontinued it like any manufacturer would. Toyota is doing better than domestic automotive market by being #1 in sales. They are also involved in NASCAR with the Camry racing in the series. IMO, Toyota is based on the consumer in general vice than that one specific consensus and that's why they made SCION to cater them.

I enjoyed the way they drove, just takes some getting used to the view. They feel pretty well around turns and twisties so I'm a fan of them. Just the fact that their 2 seaters kind of makes them impractical for me. Go for it if you can afford it, they are fun cars.

I read somewhere that Toyota originally considered having this car run with the Celica GT-S motor (2ZZ-GE). When the engine hits "lift," (VVT
L-i is Toyota's analog to Honda's i-VTEC) there is an abrupt (not smooth) increase in torque and power output at around 6k rpm. With the midship engine, rear wheel drive layout and lightweight characteristics, the car could potentially become tail-happy if this crossover point is reached during hard cornering. Due to Toyota's concern for safety, they decided to underpower the MR-S with the 1ZZ-FE (VVT-i) engine.

If (and possibly when) I have the money, I'd get one in black with with the 2ZZ engine and C60 transmission swapped in and other goodies (full TRD wide body kit, wider 16" wheels/tires, full C-One suspension, hard top, etc.). I'd choose this setup over getting a Lotus Elise/Exige.

yeah, i think this car is a disapointment to the mr2 line

on the contrary, a lot of purist MR2 enthusiasts would say that it's the ultimate evolution of the MR2 line. forget the SW20, that car had become too luxurious and heavy when compared to the AW11.
the MR-S is the MR2's return to it's roots. and on another note, i like the way it looks; yet sadly, i cannot own/drive one where i live because it didn't pass Canadian crash-test regulations and it was never sold here.
