having hard time studying i already forgot the stuff i learned in math last week already laugh.gif

what are some good tips to stay focus and not have your mind wonder around
rotten_sherry
Not have my mind wonder around???? That's almost impossible!

Just a big will, a big big willingness....and a cup of bitter coffee.

*thanks God you save me from a word called 'study'*

SG Fighting!

If I have to stay focused while studying I need to have a clean room o_O
A messy room ruins my concentration cause I keep thinking about needing to clean it.
And then I make it comfy with something nice to eat and drink and listen to music.
That's when I get most out of studying x)
chubzzy
hahaha... that's a tremendously impossible task for me! i am never able to stay focused...

My school issues all junior students wit a work planner that has a comic in the back.
The comic describes how to efficiently co-ordinate yourself for school .. And how to manage study.

Basically, you:
- Need a personal area which is off limits when "hard core studying is taking place!" (I'm quoting there .. ==)
- The such area to be free of distractions including music and TV.
- Have to have every packed into folders, co-ordinated into subjects or priority.
- Tackle assignments and assessments two weeks before they're due (ideally).

Also, it encourages you to partake in note taking.
And hence another comic .. ==

I sometimes do and don't.
How does teachers expect us to pay attention all the time?

set up your goal.

example:
jessica alba likes number, you want to impress her for a one night stand. study hard for your math, and she's all yours
forgottenmemories
Don't ever study at home. Its the most distracting thing ever. Go study in a library or something.

And since you mentioned that you tend to forget everything you learned last week, take the effort to review your notes within 24 hours. It helps you move all those information from short-term memory to your long-term memory.
Rainie_Days
Set goals and study time. Make a schedule. Don't try to cram everything in the last minute, that's the worse, and not every time, you'll be lucky to pass your exams without studying... lol smile.gif

Oh, and have a clear mind ^^ like study somewhere you feel comfortable at.

Har har ha HAH~

this cracked me up. Yup, like everyone said. Set goals. UNDERSTAND what you're learning.
The key is 'determination'. Everyone can do it if they set their mind to it. Good luck : )

when studying, don't study with distractions around. (example: tv, computer, phone, bed, fridge, etc etc)

make study goals saying that you CAN'T do something until you do this CORRECTLY. (example: no watching korean drama until i can fully understand this -- of course this takes lots of discipline sleep.gif;; i can't follow through with this all the time either ;;)

perhaps study at the library OR in a quiet room at home... WITHOUT FRIENDS.

don't procrastinate 'cause then you're just focused on finishing the damn assigment, not actually understanding it
uruchai
I can't study without listening to music; but I actually listen to classical/jazz music. I'm a night owl when it comes to studying so i do best when i do an all-nighter. whether this is healthy or not, I dont know since it's the one thing that works for me. but! just stay away from procrastination.

also, I take notes from my notes and make review sheets. i'm the type who needs to write and write in order to retain what I studied.

as for studying Math [altho i'm not really qualified to give advice since it's my weakest subject], it really helps to keep solving problems/equations continuously. i mean, that's really the most useful way to study for it. sigh, these are all easier said than done.
cpopbaby19
know your preferences! if you can study with music, then study with the music on. i turn on the music when i feel like there's nothing in my head but when there's idea in my head, i stop it and formulate the ideas. smile.gif (that applies for making essays anyway. -.< )

and yes, clean the place because unorganized environment makes you loose focus and instead shift your attention to the dirt rather than your notes.

treat yourself after studying! tell yourself you will watch something to compensate your hard work. tongue.gif I do this all the time and it works wonders! XD <33 but it takes patience though~ but it's worth it. ^^;

also, take notes in class, they're really useful. and if you take notes, try to put your reaction and understanding about a topic. if you can't study with a 'note-taking handwriting' might as well rewrite your notes. smile.gif it's also effective, (i always do it and i think i understood the lesson more)

a nice day.
cut off the internet x_x
doing that makes me finish my homework
like this*

When I need to stay focus, I turn off my computer. I write a big sign with my goals on it and place it infront of me. I try to make studying fun, so I try to relate my study topic to something entertaining and easy to remember.
xjleex
My courses are online and I really get distracted on the computer so sometimes I uninstall programs. Sometimes I get distracted every 5 minutes and end up back on Soompi IRC so I just ban myself until my exams are over.
monchichi
I always found that studying in a quiet room with a mug of tea always helped me.

Also, if you study at a desk before you sleep, you tend to remember things better. Never study in bed.
xskyi
I have never in my whole life been able to consentrait on my homeworks and even worse tests!!!
I once stayed from 8pm to 4 am to study science, the next day i only remebered like a glimt half of what i read the night before. (never do that!)

i actually have no ide how to answer your question.
Hell104
i just shut myself in my own room and force myself to study with nothing else on lol
Piscesgrl389
best way for me to study is to re-write my notes
LOL while re-writing my notes i read the book
and add additional stuff along with my notes.
I go to barnes and nobles strait after
class to re-write my noted after im done
i go home and at night when every1 is
asleep i lock myself in my room shut off the computer
and force myself to study lol.
asianami

a quiet place with no distractions always work for me.
when its for a test thats the next day, i review before i go to bed, then review once i wake up, then review on the bus, whenever i have free time, inbetween periods... :3
I SWEAR I GET LYKE OVER AN A- ON THAT!! >__O;;
lol errr thats my awesome-ness tips there HAHA XDDDD:;

I'm exactly the same. I cannot stand a dirty room, it irks me. And I need to be listening to music. Theres usually a snack or drink within reach so I won't have to get up. When I start studying I make the most out of it (for hours&hours). But when my family is being really annoying and won't stop buggin me I study at the library. Not the public one because there are too many kids and annoying high-schoolers hanging out sleep.gif I go to my college library which is spacious and quiet. I usually bring my MP3 player so I can listen to it while I study.

I know it's more efficient if you study with breaks (like 20 minutes of studying - break - 20 more minutes - break and so on), but I find that when I take a break its more difficult for me to come back lol

Anddd if I study at home I have to cut off my own internet or else I stray XD
&gravity.
If I have to read a textbook, I would stay in my room and read it for 30 minutes, take a small break and come back to reading. I suppose it's not a big problem for me to take focus because I live by myself and I really don't have anything in my apartment yet to distract me.
Sp0iL3d_Br8t
I find hiding in a room sized BOX is good.
What I mean is ABSOLUTELY no distractions, just you and your books.
tonic&gin
I'mma lock myself up or put on a headphone when the noise is unavoidable.
ti-licious
go to a room where there's nothing but my books and pens.

i can't study.

Gullwings
oh god..... i can't really study..... but I think I would focus... when I lock my computer, mp3 player, TV and stuff... up*cough*
predator
I lock myself in my bedroom.
And study with Yiruma on (:

I read my notes silently, then read them out loud, and re-write them.
It helps keep it in my head.
Yangchild
I'm doing some diff. study technique that i never done in HS

four classes total, starting out with one notebook and four composition notebooks.
the notebook is to take all notes and etc. from all classes
composition is one per class
i retake my notes into the comp. notebk, helping me remembered what i just learned in class....and this is a every night thing.
helps me better memorize things.
gah...

i can not study in the library at all. it is TOO quiet. so, i'm cope up in my dorm room most of the time.

Ivy202
I try listening to music with a low volume, that keep me concentrate on my homework. Maybe it works for others too. =P
jaerae_princess
i just need a QUIET/CLEAN/BIG room to study!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
touchthesky
when i REALLY seriously need to study i head to the library. its like 5 or 10 mins from my house so i can go whenever i want. but thats easier said than done... im usually too lazy to go even when i should T_T
chdairkld
Shut my computer off...it works wonders. Because I lack such self control I go to the library without my laptop into a quiet room...that works lots of wonder! haha.
trashstar
hmm i stay focused and study during breaks between classes because there's pretty much nothing else to do in school tongue.gif

i agree with you. i hate having to clean my room but it`s hard for me to study and focused.
i also avoid window views cuz i tend to procrastinate.
&&; unplug the computer. i get tortured to open the power button so i go in the internet instead of studying.
it`s hard for me to study cuz my butt is usually on the computer.
TWIX.
i go study in the kitchen/living room
or any room that doesn;t have a
computer XD if there;s a computer
i can;t really study cuhs i;ll be
tempted to go online !
chineseduckling
NO COMPUTER. haha, if i have a computer, i check my facebook. and i spend hours on facebook.
meteorstarbb829
that's IMPOSSIBLE for me laugh.gif
i always procrastinate and i forget things easily.
like i learn something in class, then when i get home i totally forget how to do something .
~Manyh
I study when it's all quiet and no TV or computer on.
joolee.
I have the same problem but when I really have to study, just study in a quiet room without a computer or something interesting around.
x0_saturn_0x
For me, I also have to clean up my room/desk before I study. When I have a messy enviroment, I tend to get really distracted and I can't focus.
Also, it helps not to have a laptop or computer in your study room cuz it always tends to make you want to go on the internet instead of studying. With the laptop in my reach, I'm always on facebook and soompi x_X
But when I put it away, I could focus much better without the temptation of wanting to go online.
Usually I can concentrate better with music playing, but sometimes when my mind can't grasp a concept, I have to turn it off so the quietness can help my mind focus better.
Stay focused on one subject at a time, and review your notes from the previous class. That way it'll stay fresh in your mind. Also if you have time, it helps to run through what you'll be going over the next class. Go over some concepts that you think will be coverered in the next class so that when your teacher goes over it, the concepts will stay more clear because you've already gone through it.
=]

-EDIT-
woohoo! page ownage lol
peanutbutterox
take notes at what you don't understand and highlight the important parts so it's colorful and pretty but my lang. arts teach said that highlighting your notes make you remember much, much easier.
PH4T
Isolate yourself.

I don't know about you, but I get distracted so easily.
There's the computer there, my PS2 here and the tv's just a couple steps away.
I tend to make all these lames excuses not to study.

So lock yourself in a nice clean room.
Tell your parents not to bother you.
And turn on some kind of instrumental music.
Aha, piano or any instrumental versions of good songs makes me feel smart and motivated to work. LOL!

Maybe that's just me.
sharleh
^ I agree with you biggrin.gif
But I usually make myself study in my room, I sorta have SOME self control so I won't stray on the internet unless it's really boring,
err I also go to the library and force myself to study/ do assignments. I just basically need my study stuff, a quiet peaceful place and my iPod.

Classical music really helps- it makes you feel smart biggrin.gif
vikkyx3
well i turn on the tv, make a cup of tea/hot cocoa, and sit there with a big blanket and books.
thats the ONLY way i can study. werd. lol
addickshun
i always have a cup of water next to me when i concentrate.
chifuni
I listen to music...LOL. I don't know, it helps me do homework and study.
i'm weird...
but a quiet room helps.
b1gb4ng1rl
It's different for everyone but for starters I'd turn off Soompi & the internet/computer.
Rinrinn
It's hard to study @ home.
my siblings and parents are so inconsiderate.
whenever I scold them about them talking too loud, or turning things on too loud, they don't care.. and sometimes they say things back that piss me off dry.gif
Anyone have this problem too?

I have to leave home and study @ the library in order to get productive... but it's sooo annoying cuz i don't like to drive back & forth from the library and the libraries here don't open 24 hrs. >=(

ok i'll stop

This is so true for me. I don't understand how all of my friends can study in bed. I fall asleep in 10 minutes.

I get distracted so easily. I can't study when:
it's too quiet
it's too loud and I can hear conversations around me
my room's messy
right after I've showered. Weird, huh? Does anyone else get extremely drowsy after showering? dry.gif
listening to music
when everyone else is sleeping around me. I keep thinking, "This is so UNFAIR!"

Lol, yeah, I have ADD!
