What is it?

The fruit is edible, and is often used in East Asian soups, snacks, desserts, and sweet-and-sour foods. They are round with a thin, brown-coloured inedible shell. The flesh of the fruit, which surrounds a big, black seed, is translucent white, soft, and juicy.

Longans and lychees bear fruit at around the same time of the year. Dried longan (Chinese: 圓肉; pinyin: yu�nr�u; literally "round meat") are often used in Chinese cuisine, Chinese food therapy and herbal medicine and Chinese sweet dessert soups. In contrast with the fresh fruit, the flesh of dried longans is dark brown to almost black.

Longan trees require sandy soil and temperatures that do not typically go below 4.5 degrees Celsius (40 degrees Fahrenheit).

my family calls it lychee -_____-
but that stuff is good but it is in cantonese "yeat hay" like hot throat. i dunno lol unhealthy but taste good

Isn't lychee like the one that's more reddish colored? Haha idk that's how I differentiate longan and lychee

My family is more of the Lychee family, but this years crop of Lychee was just horrible, so w ate a lot of Longan this year x3

Yes, dragon eye.
It's funny how Chinese translating to English works.
I like fruits like that, but my parents ugh.
They never buy it so I never get to eat it. -.-

You eat dragon eye on the day of the full moon (but it's based on the lunar calendar, the day August 15) besides mooncakes.
So there's something that ya'll can enjoy if you don't like mooncakes.

lychees are definitely not the same and longans...lychees have a red shell and longans have a brown shell.....the taste is also really different

but I like longans better. I LOVE freezing them ahahha. It's perfect for the summer.

I tried blending some longan and tried to make juice. Haha. Eew. It tasted gross.

It's yummy when eaten as it is. peeled. LOL.

Yeah, definitely. A chilled longan tastes better. And I prefer longans to lychee(I've never really liked lychee).

me and my dad are like obsessed
after dinner you see bowls and dishes just overflowing with the seeds and shells
we ate a lot of it when we went to florida and my parents recently came home from new york with like 5 bags
i want some now... haha

I usually eat it with lychee and some other canned fruits combined in a big bowl. And put some ice blocks and syrup over it. Hmm yummy =)
