Chika Umino's popular "Honey and Clover" is the latest manga series to be adapted to television. It was turned into a movie in 2006, starring Yu Aoi. This time, 15-year-old actress Riko Narumi will be taking over as the lead character, Hagumi Hanamoto.
"Honey and Clover" follows the lives of five college students and their love triangles. Hagumi is a talented artist in her first year, even though she appears to be much younger. Toma Ikuta has been cast as Yuta Takemoto, the lead male character. The remaining main cast members have not yet been announced.
The drama will air on Fuji TV at 9:00pm every Tuesday, starting on January 8. Filming starts near the end of this month.

Toma?!?!?! Riko-chan!??!?!?! = Awesome!!!!!
I must agree with my obaa-chan, linhkawaii, that MIZUKAWA ASAMI fits to be AYUMI perfectly.
I didn't like the manga, anime or movie. I just like the name Honey and Clover which i think is cute. The art when it's colored is very pretty too. Other than that, the manga is i guess too sophisticated for me to understand or like. But I'll watch this for the sake of my favorite teen actress Riko-chan :X and with Toma in it, it seems like it's gonna be better than the movie XD.

I will most definitely watch. I miss Toma ever since Hana Kimi and Riko from 1Litres.

i didn't read the manga in its entirety nor watched the full 2 seasons of the anime. yet... i know the story and its ending. lol. well... i guess the movie kinda brought the manga's ending to life in a way.
i wonder who will be Morita-senpai. ugh, i'm in love with the eccentricities of his character. Yusuke Iseya [from the movie] gave Morita's character a bit of a twist. i didnt mind it so much. I'm not sure if he does doramas. hmm... and yes, I agree, Mizukawa fits the description for Ayumi. i'll be happy if she'd get casted.
as for Toma, I love him. i guess it's nice that this time around he's playing a not-so-wacky character. Takemoto, though, is the most boring character.

The manga portrays adolescent love and the worries of aspiring artists. The main characters are Hanamoto Hagumi, Takemoto Yuta, Morita Shinobu, Mayama Takumi and Yamada Ayumi five students attending art college.
Narumi Riko plays Hanamoto Hagumi a talented young girl who is the focus of attention as an emerging artist. In spite of this, she is insecure about her future and talent. She is shy around strangers because she grew up in the countryside and is inexperienced in love.
Ikuta Toma, plays Takemoto Yuta, an architecture student who falls in love with Hagumi when he lays eyes on her.
More info:
http://thewaltzdramatic.blogspot.com/Narumi Riko's a pretty good, expressive actress so I think I'd consider watching this.

I just hope that the live action drama won't disappoint me like the movie.. The anime was so good that I don't want them to ruin it
But I'm looking forward to this drama...
If you know Orange Days, Honey and Clover has almost the same plot with it xD
(I'm excited to know who will play Morita and Yamada)

...the anime was amazing, the movie was disappointing, although i like Toma more than Sho.
I still like Yui Aoi as Hagu more. She has more of that "out of this world" presence that Hagu has.
Really want them to pick someone good for Morita, the movie was a bit weird. =/
other than that, hope the drama won't disappoint. this is my favorite anime of all times after all. ^O^

Hehe I cant wait to see Toma's acting skills in this drama!
Thanks for the thread! I think Riko is a perfect actress for Ha-chan's role.
2008 seems so far away XD; LOL.

I'm far beyond excited with this. Riko chan is very pretty and has great potential as shown on 1Litre of Tears. She's a good actress for a girl her age

the movie wasn't bad, but it wasn't...great either. hopefully the series will look deeper into their relationships and be a little more interesting.

Nov 10 2007, 04:18 AM
hmm.. I'm not too sure about this. Although the anime was fantastic the movie sucked so bad. i feel like the drama is gonna be a drag. How can they put the humorous stuff in a live action serie? They couldn't do it with the movie so.. I like the anime because of the funny chibis and great insert songs which really caputures the moment. The serie would be less good without those two elements in my opinion. Then it would just be drama, drama and love triangles. I just want it too be a feel good, care free serie.
I just hope they cast a good morita this time. The guy from the movie was totally wrong. Too handsome and weird, not in a comical way but scary. And please a better looking Mayama. I know he's not supposed to be good looking, but the old fugly nerd from the movie really killed the vibe for me. >_<
Not sure about Toma either. I've only see him play funny or weird characters.
I'm very curious how this one will turn out. Surely I'll be very pissed if it sucks.

I think they did quite well with the hair though. LOL. Well, at least for the girls. And Mayama had them same glasses.

I haven't watched the anime yet.

I'm not crazy over anime now. And I don't like the different hair colors. Manga? ROFL. But yeah. I can't wait. I love Toma. :DDDD Cutie, cutie.
I hope this drama is a little more funny. The movie was really light-hearted and deep. I liked it but it lacked the humor? Ahh, whatever I say...doesn't make sense.
ANYHOO. Can't wait. Need Toma. Need drama.

I'm a little iffy about the idea of a Honey and Clover live action tv series. I really enjoyed the anime but the movie was just ok. I don't think the charm of the anime can be translated into live action. But I guess we'll have to see when the show comes out.

I have to say... I'm not that happy with Riko Narumi as Hagu. I don't know, I like her and all, but she doesn't seem like she fits it. I loved Aoi Yu in the movie (even though I didn't finish it the first 10min with her is pretty good~)
... LOL I would totally have thought Toma would be Morita. XDD Morita's so AWESOME <3 I love him so much!! :] But hmm~~ I wonder who will be Morita and Yamada~ ^^v
