I'm a fan of writing letters. I'm currently deployed so I tend to write a lot of letters. I agree, the sincerity is definitely there... That and I always love finding out what kinda penmanship certain people have. I tend to think that it says a lot about people.

I had a few Japanese penpals in the past , mostly males who traveled a lot on business, so it was hard to keep in touch.
I'd like another snail mail pal in the future. I like my msn convos with friends and all, but not all the time. It's good to get away from the comp screen once in a while.

I had penpals in the past, it was fun to receive letters from all over the world. But as I grew up, I didn't have much time for letter-writing, and apparently, neither did my pen-pals, so we eased off corresponding. I wouldn't mind writing letters again, but I guess not everyone has the patience to write and wait for letters to arrive.

bleh, no. i have a couple friends who really lament the loss of letter-writing and yearn for the return of personal snail mail, but all i can say is that i feel guilty whenever i receive a nicely handwritten letter from either of them, because i have absolutely no desire to reciprocate. i can put my hand to pen, pen to stationery, but then it's just like... "i don't know how to handwrite anymore! it's messy, it takes too long, and i can't backspace or insert anything!" i'm lazy and addicted to technology
i miss cute stickers though. like on envelopes and letters?
ishanx
Nov 15 2007, 08:06 PM
Agreed. My penpals used to put rubberstamps and stickers all over the letters. After graduating from school, I think I haven't touch any of my stationery at all.. Hahaha, probably a real messy handwriting now.
I would like to have penpals too~ XD

MSN/Internet sorta killed the concept of sending handwritten letters. People start getting lazy and typing on msn and sending emails, which has no intimacy whatsoever and no warm feeling at all. We could still write the letters and all, but would you feel like doing so when your penpal is at a few clicks away from your computer? I had some too before but lost contact with them

Oh man, I REALLY miss writing letters out to my penpals, to my friends even. We text, msn each other instead of writing notes, something we both used to do 5-6 years back. I'd love to start over again though, I really miss the anticipation of waiting for a letter to come in the mail, that thin slip of envelope with handwriting scrawled across its surface. ;___;

when i was younger, my cousin was my "penpal" since we live in different states. man, i wrote to her like every other day. we both have big boxes filled with our letters. now we just talk everyday on gchat

in junior high had 2 penpals in spain. i wrote to them a lot, but snail mail takes soooo long to get there, so after a while it got kind of frustrating.

i wish i had a penpal still.

me and my friends were talking about how kids theses days dont know how to write anymore cuz typing is so much more part of our basic lifestyle now. my friend is a teacher for junior high and he says he cant read half the test they turn in.
i remember when i was a kid, they used to make us type out our papers so we get more practice typing but now they should make it the other way around. kids need to learn how to write properly and legibly.

Try here:
http://www.japan-guide.com/penfriend/I found three pen pals from this place.
One penpal I communicated with several years, but I think he got bored with it and decided to end our communication. The other two penpals, I still write regularly via e-mail. Both are men, one who just turned 60 this year and the other in his 40s.
I have had other penpals but they didn't seem serious about it and communication came less and less.
The two Japanese penpals I have are very nice. Both of them I have been corresponding with for over five years. Last year in March, my oldest penpal visited the US and came to see me. It was a wonderful experience. I took him on a tour of my city then took him to Williamsburg for a day and then to Monticello the next. The visit was brief but very enriching.
I have a penpal in Italy but we talk sparingly. He's in his 30s and writes fantasy novels. Very neat.
I always wish to have a girl penpal but I don't know what the deal is with not being able to get one. lol!
Oh well, I would like to have a pen pal from South Korea. That would be awesome.
And I am for e-mail or snail mail. I am flexible.

I have 8 girl penpals;
1 French,
3 Japanese,
2 Korean,
1 German,
1 Tunisian,
1 Taiwanese-and the only boy from KoreaI still keep in touch with them. Because I loves writing.
All of them still using traditional way; snail mail coz we both agreed that snailmail is more fun and sincere.
Well, it's hard to find the boy that was good in writing and decorating letter.

Only this Korean boy that I found was hardworking decorating letters and have a beautiful handwriting.
Many boys are lazy to write.
No wonder I have more girlfriends than the boy..

my best friend and i usually wrote letters when she lived in NYC and even tho we chatted everyday on msn or via text

we found there were lots of things to say, small observations of the commute and things that had just popped to mind at the time.
We gmail letters now because it take 3 freakin weeks for any mail to get to her in the phillipines, but we still write occasionally.
i find sometimes that there are things better said in a letter that you would normally say or explain on the phone that are too wordy and for an IM or a PM.
I even bought an ink pen for the first time in like a decade to write letters especially *loves*

i'm getting a penpal next week! she's from a small town in ghana, africa.
the priest at my church is from ghana and he was telling us about the struggle in ghana.
they're a very poor country and my priest is trying to build a school there. and i told him that i'd like to donate money,
but there's something a bit...insensitive (for lack of better word) about that.
so he told me that i could write to a student there and that would be very encouraging for the student.
i'm super excited to start writing. haven't had a penpal since before the internet.

wow snail mail?

Sounds wonderful!
The thing is... I'm not very good at keeping in touch with people. I have a close friend who moved to the other side of the country and I have a hard time returning her phone calls sometimes. And then I have friends in Korea and Japan that I met when I travelled over the summer, but after a couple months I stopped writing back... and that was just e-mails. But the thought of receiving something in the actual mailbox seems so personal that I think it would definitely inspire me to write back right away and find cute little stickers and things to include in my letter. But I don't know... what to talk about? I feel like my whole life is school haha how boring!
I would like to have a penpal in Australia or New Zealand. I'm graduating after this semester and want to travel and work over there for a couple months before going to grad school... just for fun. They have these websites with jobs for people who want to go to Australia or New Zealand for an extended holiday and I check it every now and then.

I had a guy friend, he was Japanese and he was from Japan!
He writes his own music and he has his own band. He's like a vocalist and he plays electric guitar and drum.
He said he was hoped to become famous.
We didn't really tell each other our real names. I called myself Sakura? O_O
Well actually he gave me a Japanese name Lol XD He named me Sakura.
And his name was Ichigo (bleach) XDDDDDDDDDDDD Well that time I didn't know what bleach anime was.
We would combine ourselves Ichigo Sakura. Strawberry Flower.
We would write to each other for like 2 years? But then we stopped because I kept moving to new house.
So I told him not to mail me and just email each other on MSN.
So we did that... I missed doing the penpal with him because it was very fun.
He would send me his favorite anime images and like some of his music recorded.
He also wrote a song for me called, "Sakura, the Sweet Girl" XDD it was soooooooo cute!
I remember that he told me he was 7 years older than me though. And he made me beanie hat!
And like bracelets too like friendship bracelet.
Then around 2001, we stopped talking to each other because he said this music company wanted
him and his friends to become famous. So he asked me to wait for him for few months.
But he didn't talk to me for few months later. But in 2003, he said he's in a band now!! O__O
Like famous band!! He didn't tell me which band he is in though =X
He said something like "I would tell you my band name. But I'm afraid we will lose our friendship
over famous situations. I am worried, I don't want to lose you as a friend. So I rather not say it."
But he sent me one of his previous work of music?? I heard it, it was soooooooooo good!
We talked on the phone few times before too!! ^___^ He would tell me like "Music is my therapist.
It sets my mood to change. I like that feeling" ^___^
Then in 2004-05, he told me that he's been going to Europe, Canada, America, and other Asia countries
for their music cause they became so famous!! T-T;;
Then we stopped talking in Summer 2005 T-T;; Because... I had my own problems to deal with. I just cut
everything out...................... even my penpal!! I even told him to register to createblog.com/forums too hahaha so we can keep in contact there. but i quit createblog too... cause of dramas.
then yeah.. D: it's been 2 years i haven't contact him? i don't remember my old email address where we used to contact T_T_T_T_T_T_T_T;;;
Then my friends joke me around saying "what if Shou from Alice Nine is your penpal" LOL I WISH XDDDDDDDDDD kekekeke. But I shouldn't wish for it... cause who knows it would hurt his feeling >__<;;

I'm looking for Japanese pen pals (ones actually in Japan). I think it'd be cool. Trying to find a safe website that doesn't cost anything. If anyone's interested in a pen-pal from the USA let me know!
