what's BSD, SHH, and oktoprep? not sure what they are....but most guides say it's necessary to install them.
i thought the last step was go to jailbreakme.com, install "installer", and then you're done.....but seems like i was wrong.
so yeah, don't follow this guide:
http://www.tuaw.com/2007/10/29/instant-jai...and-ipod-touch/there are more steps you need to do after installing the "installer" from jailbreakme.com, which they didn't say

i thought ppl said the process will be really quick.
seems like it would take at least 20-30 minutes to go through the jailbreaking process (downgrade to 1.1.1 --> jailbreak --> prepare 1.1.1 for 1.1.2 update by doing the oktoprep thing? --> update to 1.1.2 --> jailbreak again)
and there are so many guides. each guide tells you a different way of jailbreaking.....so confusing
i need to do more research on this before jailbreaking my ipod.
BSD = basic programs they need for installing things, like linux tools.
SSH = think dos that lets you remotely control the ipod.
OKtoprep = you downgrade your ipod to 1.1.1 > Jailbreak it > Install OKtoPrep so you can upgrade to 1.1.2 and jailbreak. The OKtoPrep basically puts in some hacks so that when you upgrade it to 1.1.2 there will be a opening for your computer to be able to downgrade it. 1.1.2 fills in all the security holes so you can't jailbreak it.
Yeah it will take a while if you want to go back up to 1.1.2 the actual hack to go to the site is fast. 30 minutes is a good estimate if you have everything on your computer already.

well it seems that apple is releasing a SDK that supports 3rd-party applications next month.
guess i'll just wait for that instead of jailbreaking and voiding my warranty
Jailbreaking doesn't really void your warranty. Most computers out there say your warranty is void if you change the operating system... its next to impossible to kill a ipod touch, crash it really bad? Start recovery mode, do a restore to 1.1.1 (and loose everything you did) then start over.

so apple never said anything about releasing a SDK so far....
and there's the release of the newest firmware version (1.1.3)
how would you jailbreak that?
You can't jailbreak 1.1.3 yet. Most likely it will take a few weeks before they will be able to come up with a OKtoPrep program to let you upgrade to 1.1.3 jailbreak friendly.
Im not holding my breath for the SDK.
Did you see? Apple said if you want Google Map + Mail they charge you $20 for that upgrade otherwise you can use the 1.1.3 without those tools. I don't know about you, but it looks like they want to charge for those programs and even with the SDK, I doubt many will remain free. Im thinking there will be itunes like buy a program for $6 to load it in.
