In your opinion..what is worse on ur transcript??
Failing a class (maybe retaking the class and upping the grade sometime in the future but nevertheless..failing a class!!)
-or-
having a big fat W (withdrawal) on the transcript?
Will that impact one's chances for getting into Grad school too?? T___T

the F is worst.
it brings down your grade.
and people will stare at the F longer than they the W.
see? ehehehe.
i think a W just means that
you decided not to finish the class.
it doesnt list a reason.
just means you left the class
without wanting a grade.
an F. that means you failed.
you went to class and did bad.
regardless of the reasons,
you did bad!!
see the difference?
well, at least that's what i think.
good luck.
take care.
W:
- lose all the money for the course
- looks bad on transcript
F:
- lose all the money for the course
- looks bad on transcript
- drops your GPA TERRIBLY.
F is worse.
I would know.. I have a terrible transcript
haha

My chem prof. Gave us a a 20 min lecture on this since 1/2 our class was failing lol, and telling people if they are failing and think they are at the point they cant bring up their grades then drop. He said an F is worse because it will not only affect your GPA, but ppl always notice an F more than a W. People who look at your transcipt when they see the W they know you didnt stay at the course but they wouldnt know when your dropped it, you could have droped it earlier or the last possible day you can drop a course. However when they see the F just like itrayya said you failed you did bad no matter what there is the F lol. Also in my school even if you retake the class the F will still be there. They will just put a R next to it if you retook it so no matter what its there.

Take the W before its too late.
F is wayyyyyy worse than W.

i think it really depends on whoever looks at your transcript. apparently, my instructors had told me a W looks worse than a "F" because W shows that you have given up. I think I'm going to get an F in math and I was going to withdrawal from it, but everyone told me not to, but either way I'm doomed. lol.

a "W" is just an "F" in disguise. why else would you withdraw?
take the W, all the way.

take the W, all the way.
actually multiple reasons
for example i was sick last year and i had taken the max course load..so i was advised by my doctors to just drop one course so i can spend more time in recovery.

^ same thing with me in Statistics, pass or not was depend on my final lol i end up passing but sucks because it's a C and i'm a business major >.<I find it extremely hard to get an "A' in a college math course! my previous math courses (Trig, PreCalc) i get B. I was suppose to take Calc but just decide to hold on that and take stats first.

omg me too, im a business major too~ i despise math buts it's a prerequisite, i just need to pass it ... and it all depends on the final in may, im thinking maybe i'll just take the reprise program...don't wanna take the chance -.-

^ bleh, im with both of u. i got a calc test tomm which will decide my grade for the semester.
but then im like taking this class for the second time cause i withdrew from the summer course. and im transferring this fall so filling out applications i felt better putting a w in the box rather than an F

Failing is worse than withdrawal.
I sure don't want either of them on my academic transcript!

W's aren't even that bad just don't get 70 of them or something. F is the worst that just shoots your GPA wayyyyyy down.

FAILURE!
at my college, you can withdraw courses before a specific deadline. no penalty to transcript.

can you retake the class you received a "w" in and have it replaced with the retaken class grade?

failure is much worse!!
people assume that you're dumb and it brings down your entire average

Well, if you get a F, they MAY think "oh at least this guy endured the class" whereas a W says you pretty much gave up. yeah, theres the case where people get Ws for serious problems, but whatever. To me, a W and F are equal.

id rather have A W on my transcript than F!
the sole is reason is: GPA!
FYI: havin 2 or more Ws is not gud at all......its like failing

I'll take the W. F is too much for me to cope with. Can't you at least shoot for a D or C-? don't determine an F right now.....it takes a lot to get an F.
mystic_heaven
Mar 15 2008, 04:54 PM
I got a D and I thought that was scarring enough on the transcript
I think an F would make me have a heart attack
A "W" is always better than a big fat F

just re-take the class next semester and do good on it; new grade will replace the old one. however, the old one will still be on your transcript.

Failure definatly and I think i might be heading down that way!! :x

FAILURE.
1, because you failed the class.
2, because it lowers your GPA.

Lol, who said "w" s were all that bad? Some people can choose to Drop a class in the first like, week, and it's still a W.. it doesn't mean you did bad.. Just means for some reason or another, decided to not take or finish the course. I would NEVER choose an F over a W. lol

im actually currently in the same predicament only somehow worse because imma about to transfer to uc from community and this is my VERY last semester here and im basically either probably going to get an F or drop before that happens. which i really really hope doesnt jeopardize my admission anywhere considering they're posting accept/reject admissions right at this moment. OMFG

Definitely failing! I've done both and failing feels the worse and as it's been said it brings down your gpa. I dropped out of a class that was an extra credit class at the first day because I couldn't commit to it fully and everything was so expensive and it's not like I really needed the materials with my major and that got me to withdraw so at least I didn't waste the professor's time nor mine.
