i think exterior looks kinda boring, but i love the interior =]

the cheapest version will be under $30k V6 268-280 hp and tau v8 will be around 380hp...this will be half of the price of lexus LS with similar features:
(1) High-tech equipment includes: electronic stability control, XM NavTraffic, adaptive headlights, radar-based active cruise control, a 500-watt 17-speaker Lexicon audio system, and electronic active head restraints. (2) A leather-wrapped dash, door panels, and console lid surround the driver, while heated and cooled seats provide added comfort. The steering wheel is wrapped in engineered ultraviolet reflective leather to remain cool to the touch in extreme sunlight. (3)Genesis has a total of 8 ultrasonic sensors located on the front and rear bumpers.to help park in tight spaces. The car also offers a power rear sunshade, automatic electronic parking brake, proximity key and push button starter. (4) The car's eight airbags include dual front airbags, front and rear seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and roof-mounted side curtain airbags.

HYUNDAI'S QUALITY IS NOW TIED WITH TOYOTA AND HONDA according to the TOTAL QUALITY 2007

the car already received five star in frontal, and side crash.

DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN i was thinking buying bmw this year, but now i have change of heart.

^Is it because it doesn't look like a Mercedes Benz...
mroh
looks like the love-child of a mercedes-benz (mostly grille imo) + Acura RL (headlights?) + inifiniti m35 or g35? (rear)
cksdayoff
the dashboard configuration is nice and unique.

...not a fan of that wooden trim though...
papasmurf
well i don't care about the looks....let's see how good the quality really is SINCE hyundai call it ITS their best Car Ever developed for the company
cksdayoff
tau v8 sounds like some bs ginseng energy drink.

There will be two V6's. 3.3 with 268hp and 3.8 with 290hp. The V8 pumps out 368hp with regular unleaded and 375hp with premium. The car looks pretty good, but like most other Hyundais, too similar to competing models. I can't wait to read reviews.
sadkos
looks like the G35 sedan had sex with the BMW 3 series sedan, and the product of that is what we see here. Just my opinion but i'll wait until an official review before i make a decision about this car.

Looks like what would happen if you wed a g35 with the new accord rear.

You guys are funny. But the 2nd part of your post does suggest something to be concerend about... considering Hyundai's 3 highest priced models seem to be pretty sluggish sales wise... you don't see many Azeras, Entourages, or Veracruz on the road, even though they offer more than the competition for the price. So maybe the same thing could be said for the Genesis... but if it proves to be a more than decent performer and receives positive reviews, it just might accomplish what the VW Phaeton never could, considering the Phaeton was around the $60k range and the Genesis will probably range from a bit under $30k to $40-45k tops.

Looks great. I hope it sells well and proves all the amateur critics wrong.

Some people still think Hyundai is the Hyundai of old, and that is foolish. People live in the past and cannot accept change sometimes.

I recently checked out the Veracruz... wow it is a great looking car. I hope the quality of the Genesis is as good.
v8subie
the front fascia looks like a camry while the interior looks like BMW.
cksdayoff
the grill looks atrocious, imo.

I saw the ad for the Genesis in Korea and they didn't mention that it was a Hyundai so I was like "Who's making THAT car? (in awe)" O_O Anyways it looks like a really good car - Hyundai is just getting better and better...

How does this car compare to the Equus or am I comparing apples and oranges? ^^;

The Equus (a spinoff of a large Mitsubishi luxo sedan.. don't know the name on top of my head) is 10+ years old, is a huge FWD boat, and it's 4.6 V8 makes less power than the 3.3 V6 to be used in the Genesis. You are comparing crap to something edible... something like that lol.

well all we can do is just WAIT and see how well the car is built. oh yeah btw, they're trying out a new concept so it might be a little different than cars u've been driving around, or maybe not; i guess review is the best method for this kind of vehicle.

p.s. okay, i don't know wat year model u were driving, but i can say same thing about hondas or toyotas too....were they same as they were 20 years ago? nope, i mean who knows? maybe this will change the how we view of hyundai...i remember when westerns used to laugh at toyota and honda too

If you look at the specs, the pics, and the price and still think there's no market for this car then you are beyond help

the design of the Genesis is very boring. The grill needs to be reworked and from the blog, i'd choose the 2nd option for the grill.

It's official. After gauging public reaction, Hyundai has decided not to slap on the automaker's swoopy "H" logo onto the Genesis sedan's front grille.

Two versions of the sedan were on display in Detroit, one with the aforementioned badge prominently placed in the center of the fascia and the other, which has been around since the introduction of the Genesis Concept, sporting the krill-grille sans logo. We're evenly divided about which looks better, but the general consensus is that the debadged front end had more of an upscale air.

Speaking with Automotive News, Hyundai's vice president of product development, John Krafic, said that Hyundai is expecting about 20-percent of buyers to opt for the 4.6-liter V8. Interestingly, Krafic said that cylinder deactivation and direct injection could be added on future models and that a supercharger could find its way under the hood to boost performance. No word on when either of these features would be added to the Genesis after it goes on sale this summer.

mmm supercharger
phantompc4
usual hyundai styling: getting other car company designs and putting them into one.

im pretty skeptical about this car because this is their first v8 car and first for a lot more other things.

If you cant afford a Lexus... buy a Genesis

Hyundai has come a long way. You must be a crazy japanese

It's funny that the front of the car doesn't bear Hyundai's logo...almost as if it doesn't want others to know that it's a Hyundai.
youngnottheold1
^ that's pretty much the idea. Stubborn americans won't give the company a chance. Same reason for the formation of Lexus, Infiniti, Acura etc.

imho the badge delete is a step in the right direction. Hopefully we'll see a luxury division soon

Did anyone see the new commercial? I saw it during the Superbowl and it looks impressive with the LED tails and all and flashy chrome trim. I'm optimistic the Genesis will be a breakthrough product for Hyundai. They tried with the Azera which I thought was a nice car, but it didn't have the stuff to make an impact on the car industry. The Genesis does... Hyundai knows it, and that is why they appropriately named it that way. If it fails again... damn back to the drawing board.

Hey Korean electronics had a bad rap years back, look at the leaders of televisions now. I watched the Superbowl on a friend's 58 inch Samsung HDTV... WOWZERS.
ahndee
^I think they're doing very well with the advertisement and they're going in the right direction.
I'm glad they changed the front grill, it looks much better now. It would be a huge step forward if they do well with the Genesis.
Hyundai has come a long way, hope they do well.

Nicely crafted I must say.

It looks simply elegent...

Spy Shots: Hyundai Genesis Coupe caught in Sweden

Though we've seen spy shots of Hyundai's upcoming rear-wheel-drive Genesis Coupe before and now have the Genesis Coupe Concept as a reference for the upcoming production version, these brand new spy shots taken in Sweden reveal many new details, not the least of which is the car's production interior and back seat. Let's start with the exterior, where we can see the sculpted lines of a lower air intake with some chrome slats for good measure. Both doors are also completely uncovered and offer a peak at the flowing character lines that run the length of the car.

Spy photogs got some great shots of the interior, as well, which reveal the production center console, gauge cluster, and a floor-mounted shifter for an automatic transmission with manual shifting capability. Shift paddles apparently won't be offered, but there are heated seats and these particular chairs are nicely bolstered. The rear seats are strict buckets with their own center console sporting a pair of cup holders and some cubby storage. Rear set leg room looks pretty good from this angle, but headroom at this point is an unknown.

Finally, we've also got shots of the engine bay that show the Genesis Coupe's 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder. Though a V6 will also likely be offered, we're more excited about the four-cylinder for its more tunable nature, lower cost and better weight distribution within the coupe as a whole. Rumors of a V8 being offered are still just that... rumors.

New York 2008: Hyundai Genesis coupe

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/19/new-yor...sis-coupe-live/

QUOTE

If there were ever a fail-safe formula for a press conference, Hyundai nailed it. While we're normally forced to endure lengthy tomes about an automaker's past achievements and the blatherings of egomaniacal execs, Hyundai comes out with two Genesis coupes doing burnouts, e-brake turns and powerslides, then caps it all off with enough pyrotechnics to make North Korea nervous. It was unequivocally badass, and not only does Hyundai have the recipe for a kicking press conference, they know how to cook up exactly what enthusiasts have been asking for.

Under the expert direction of a duo of bombshell drivers (one of which is Angelina Jolie's stunt driver, and both of which can be seen in the gallery), the two coupes made their way around the makeshift track in a smoky haze that was only partially caused by the copious amount of rubber put down on the faux tarmac (the rest was from the fireworks). Both models were present – the 310-hp, 3.8-liter V6 and the 223-hp (217 on swill-fuel) turbocharged 2.0-liter four. While there was a lot of talk about giving the people what they've yearned for, there was no word on price. We're guessing that the V6 will be somewhere around $25,000, while the turbo'd 2.0-liter will just crest the $20k mark.

the candid pictures look so much better than the professionally taken ones
