oooo it's gorgeous...but I'll stick to my sturdy, thin enough to carry around macbook
i don't need air XD not literally rofl
maybe if i had the money.. XD

Jan 15 2008, 01:14 PM
nice, but i'll stay with macbook. i'd hate to carry this around also having to be delicate not to snap it.

it's think but there is no way that my dad or me is going
to fish out $1800 for a laptop not including anything but
if its like $1200, I'll get it but I already have a new laptop

Jan 15 2008, 01:18 PM
It looks dangerously thin and would probably snap with you type too hard.
I wouldn't get. Doesn't seem to be worth it and doesn't look all that appealing to me.
Pretty happy with mine ^^"

lol peeps, metal don't snap. It's aluminum and not plastic.
I'm pretty sure this will be the future design of the Macbook pros.

despite looking fragile, it's gorgeous and sleek. i'd buy one if i have the money and i need a new one. i love my first and new laptop so im stickin' with it.

Jan 15 2008, 02:18 PM
any specs on the machine?
kokopuff!
Jan 15 2008, 02:44 PM
specs are bad. not worth the money. mac targets those 30 years olds that donno anything about computer...
The laptop is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo chip running at 1.6GHz, with 1.8GHz available as an option. Jobs noted that Intel was willing to engineer a new version of the Core 2 Duo specifically to Apple's specifications -- it's 60 percent smaller than others. The chip operates with 4MB of on-chip shared L2 cache running at full processor speed, and uses an 800MHz frontside bus. 2GB of 667MH DDR2 SDRAM is also included.

I'm not sure I like the design, honestly. I like my iBook (ooh, how dated am I?) well enough. It's a little heavy, and I should upgrade in the next year to something a little smaller, but that just seems like it's over doing it. : \
How about a hybrid of the sony(?) tough-book and the air-book. That I would probably buy.

Jan 15 2008, 03:07 PM
its really thin. but when they do add another usb port and add a bigger hard drive i'll give a chance. but for now i'd stick to the MB.

Jan 15 2008, 03:16 PM

basically paying for thinness.. I don't think it's worth the money.

exactly, not a standard CPU chip. a 1.8" HD (BOOOOO) typically you have 2.5" HD in your laptops. If it didn't have a 1.8 I "might" have gotten it, but bleh.
I was hoping the MacBook's would get a dedicated Graphics card

cauz i wanted a mac laptop under 1K to play wow

You probably mean Panasonic, not Sony.
And I would actually consider getting this if the specs are decent but it's not -__-

if it's touch screen and can swivel in the future, it can have lots of applications on a very wide scale. i bet companies would pay a lot of money for electronic clipboards. (yes there are tablets, but they're not as convenient)

and yeah, the specs are alright. but crappy for what you pay for this thing

it's form over functionality.
i'm disappointed. no optical drive, no ethernet port, 1 USB port only with integrated(non-removable) battery?! =sigh=
but i agree it's really sexy.

if thinness is all you're excited about, I've been using the Sony X505 ever since 2004.

10.2in x 8.2in x .8in
less than two pounds with a carbon fiber top
oh yeah
ChairmanLMAO
Jan 15 2008, 06:26 PM
Agree with the guy above...Sony X505 style and thinness kicks Apple's arse, only downside to the Sony laptop was the cd rom drive was external not internal as it was that thin!
Normally Apple products amke me go "WOW" but this particular product, Macbook Air just doesnt have that wow factor.
I'll stick to my Sony laptop

I'll only get it if it floats like that. I won't have to worry about accidentally knocking it off my desk or lap. It will safely descend like a feather.

Bah only 1? thats a joke lol danggg. Gunna make people to buy those 5-in-1 usb adapters cuz a lot of things these days require a usb port being a external hard drive , mouse , usb cables for transfering music to mp3/video players etc... ... and intergrated battery? MARKETING SCAM I TELL YAAAA! lol... Also anyone care to show me where the CD Drive is? Or is there not one?
Ill just stick with my Dell laptop. It maybe heavy , but id rather have functionality then convenience

well, if you goto the site, they have an external USB cd/dvd drive that you attach to that single usb port. ahaha....i guess thats one of the ways they cut down on the weight and size. apple really plays on form instead of function.

the downside of the MBA is that its not user upgradeable. you cant just open it up to upgrade the ram or hd as you like since the ram is soldered onto the mobo and 1.8in HDs aren't readily available. also, no user replaceable battery....it could die on you just like ipods can. i think apple sacrificed too much to achieve a thin notebook. no express card slot, not upgradable, nonreplacable battery, 1 usb port, slow hard drive, etc.
i think apple is looking too far ahead with the MBA. wireless isn't reliable enough yet to abandon ethernet ports. wired USB is still the standard for portable devices and notebook peripheral accessories and one usb port just does not work until wireless usb is developed and released, which will not be for a while.

That is just ridiculously thin. I really don't get the appeal of having anything THAT thin. It's like the RazR phones when they came out. I hated how thin it was. But I guess this is where we are heading with everything these days, thin and touch screen.

Presenting the world's most breakable laptop.
4200 RPM 80 GB Hard Drive? Not really sure about the processor. 2GB RAM built in... Non changeable battery... No Firewire.
I mean, it's OK, but not for 1800. Besides, if a laptop is lighter than like 3 pounds, then you have to make the footprint smaller, not the thickness.
