I'm sure the STI is a tad faster, but I'm sure the two cars come very close in a race.

imo, i'd take the 335xi hands down. the sti is effin` ugly. i don't care how fast it is.
so, the question is: speed > luxury? vice versa? what do you prefer?
boost
kind of a big difference between the two when racking up the options for the 335. the 335 has a mix of luxury and performance. 335 is an easy choice for me.
OMGHIyori2U
If we're magazine racing here, the bimmer is a tad faster than the sti in a straightline from a roll.

Comparing base price to base price, the bmw is $5k higher.
Laxntiga
I will take the BMW 335xi please.

Then save up to buy a crotch rocket for my speed fix.
crazyfeel
why an AWD?

My knowledge on the e90s~ bmws aren't that good but I'm pretty sure that
the 335 doesn't come with an LSD
335ci ftw.
v8subie
You know honestly I would pick the STi and this is not on a biased opinion. Seeing the financial situation of my life right now, I don't really see myself having the money to keep the maintenance up on the BMW or the insurance on it. To tell the truth, this poll is kind of weird. A BMW vs. a powerful stock econo-box four door grocery getter for the family.
azn akira
neither, i'd get an evo tongue.gif
Laxntiga
I would probably take that bmw, sell it, buy 2 cars =)

1st. car : a project EJ6 Civic Coupe with a b18
2nd car: dont know yet

But with the left over money I would finish up my miata =)

someones on school holidays......
v8subie
took in a ride in the 2008 STi. suspension is more forgiving than that of the previous STi's. I like it.
Gackt
BMW 335, definitely. I'm not a fan of the STI.
lackluster
sti, why? it's faster than bmw 335xi
but i don't choose it between the two because of speed really

i love sti's boxer engine
all wheel drive.( even tho i think 335xi has awd)..
but i believe Subaru's are more experienced with awd since all their cars are made AWD.
plus it's cheaper.. i guess like 5k cheaper? but still cheaper

to be very honest i really dont like luxurious cars..

i think interior matches my personality..

the exterior... yeah sti kinda looks bad.. but hey thats the best part!..

who am i kidding.. it's ugly.. lol

but i kinda got used to it, so i'm fine with it.

lmao!!! laugh.gif
yea it looks better over time. i said i'd take an evo in my other post, but if i had to pick one, it would be a hard choice actually. i like bmw's style and luxury, but i also like the STIs engine and its "rally car" materials? like strong transmission and such. the car is very durable, whereas bimmers seem more fragile, at least more than the STI. hmmmm yeeea i think im gonna go with the bimmer. dont ask.
knitoe
i voted for the bmw. all wrx's look the same to me (very ugly imo), no matter what is done to them.
phantompc4
i with akira. id get niether and get the evo. went to the dealership last night and looked at them. its like God gave us a piece of his hair.
Clix
I'd take previous STi's. Newest one is kinda bleh.
cksdayoff
awful comparison because the new STI is around 34k while a 335xi is going to cost you ATLEAST 45k, good luck trying to find a new one below 45000 bucks.

I see so many old geezers driving around in 335i's, haven't seen one '08 STI on the road. Both are different animals. with that said, I would take the BMW tongue.gif

but right now, I'm waiting on purchasing an Evo X MR.
S13xFLYxBY
They had a review between them in Automobile magazine. Subaru beat the BMW. I`d prefer the Subaru because it`s just cheaper.
xHarii
well of course the subaru beat the bmw, but they come SO close.
and yes, the 335xi is AWD.
you can have fun with the 335i RWD too though
AWD is just safer.
krackerjacker200
the new sti's looks grew on me, but for a beamer... i see too many 3 series around, i'd have to get a 5 series to be diffrent.

not exactly.

You might have that secure "planted" feeling
while you're driving, but it doesn't necessarily
mean it's safer.

And if you want a vote, 335i gets my vote over
the 335xi and STi. I used to be a Scooby Nut,
just until Fuji Heavy Industries blinded me with
their ugly new hatchbacks. No offense to anyone
who's got one on this forum.

QUOTE

no its not. awd gives a false sense of security, which makes you go faster than the car and more than likely the driver is capable of. there is a reason why the wrx is the most commonly crashed car in the mountains around here (besides the fact that it understeers like no other tongue.gif). really awd just reduces power on oversteer, because it has more of a tendency to understeer under power (front wheels can only do so much at once). which can be seen as safer for a novice driver i suppose. but the fact you can put more power down out of a corner and therefore go faster (assuming equal exit speeds) kinda makes it seem less safe

anyways as a rwd wh*re i must include rwd > awd if you know how to drive

335.

looks wayyy better

u can get a tune for relatively cheap and itll run 12's all day

but in the end...you get what you pay for.

oh and screw awd

get the 335i laugh.gif
lackluster
awd is safer..
in snow
and dirt

beat your rwd very easily.

too bad race tracks arent covered in snow or dirt.

the average person is the safest in a car with a traction control and stability management system, no matter the drive train
v8subie
it doesn't matter if a car has AWD. tires do have a certain limit of grip. a majority of turbocharged AWD vehicles are heavier (exceptions are the [EVO 1-4, pending on model] and [GC8's heaviest was 2800lbs]).
joolee.
I prefer the BMW but to be honest, most BMWs all look practically the same. -____-"
Bboy_CL1
the 2008 STI look's grew on me, but my fav gen is still the 2002-2007 , i would go with a STI instead of the beamer

samesamedawg. x)

hmmm thanks for clarifying awd(:
&yusss, i'm getting the 335i.
the 335xi weighs more & shtuff :/ and plus, i think it'd be fun if i learned some moves with rwd. x)

oh shaaat~ krispy kremes, i'm DOWN!
for donuts please.
Renesis
I personally would take the 335i as it more luxurious and performs well. Two different market and branding. Both are good cars.
lackluster
well look at it this way

both cars have traction control and stability.

you pick the tires for your very best interest

subaru with soft tires.... ultimate non-slip car

but imo i kinda feel as if fwd sucks... no matter what tires you have lol sweatingbullets.gif
v8subie
STi never had stability control until the recent 2008 model came off the production line. The Bridgestone Potenzas that came with the stock STi's from the dealership sucked.

yo dude, i hear it can do a fireball if you turn the wheel qcf, qcf and punch the throttle.
benlee
LOL hali, why even post this topic ><

335 - luxury, straight line speed, style, rwd

sti- handling, moddability, awd

Two different cars for different markets tongue.gif I'd rather take the 335i biggrin.gif
zekey
I would have the bmw, because they are usually better to drive.

On the other hand, the only people who I see driving bmw's are absolute c*cks...the kind of person found in the youtube movie "my new haircut."

why because i dont have to counter the understeer from the subaru?
v8subie
I'll let you figure this one out wink.gif
azn akira
well i'd take an s2000 over the evo. but that is pretty far off the type of car the op was asking about

id say get the 335. that car is so nice. it outperforms the sti in looks and performance wink.gif
kuku
335i in my opinion. It's a nice car that's fast and sporty.

While the evo's do look much nicer, Mitsubishi transmissions will never match the STI's ever in my opinion.

I would rather have something that's nice and easier to drive. I dislike the STI clutch and shifter. The clutch gave me no feel to it and the shifter needed to be a little more direct in my opinion.
azn akira
evo dsg > any subaru transmission

besides arent you the guy who had trouble driving the mazda speed 6? if so i wouldnt take any transmission advice from you

lmao I only drove the car for 5 min at midnight when I stalled a billion times.

He let me drive the car the next day and I never stalled once. Just had to get used to the catch point. Have you driven that car before? Come on, I was a newbie and was still 17 years old. It was the 3rd manual car I've driven by then; of course I'd have trouble. Now that I've driven over 10 manual cars, I've gotten a lot more experience.

I don't know much about the new dual clutch system Mitsubishi has designed, but STI transmissions are bullet proof. The WRX, on the other hand, have the crappiest transmission the world has ever seen. The evo's DSG can't handle any upgrades pass 400 hp in my opinion. They were never designed to go that high. So if you want to mod... you have to stick to manual

evo transmission < STI transmission
azn akira
QUOTE

yes

i was in the top ten times of the day, or at least i was when i set it (in the afternoon). idk if i was bumped out or not

QUOTE

im sure you've come to this conclusion after extensive testing of the evo x

besides there are plenty of high hp evo's with standard transmissions, you dont have to worry about them breaking
boost
^with a picture to prove it too!

I think its safe to say everyone should listen to the guy who races cars every weekend and works on cars for a living(azn akira) instead of a guy who is still and highschool and who claims he gets 40mpg in his gti

but yea... Kuku, if you had trouble with a stock ms6... u should try out my car with a twin disc. you would love it
phantompc4
looks like akira just owned you kuku.

ive seen evos over 800hp. dono if thats on the regular transmission tho.
