What I mean is when it comes to stuff that have a expiration date.. do you follow as the date reads?
Say you have bread in your kitchen.. you really want to make a sandwich but the expiration date reads 2 weeks ago. The bread had no mold and is not hard.. still looks fresh.. do you eat? or toss?
I'm one of those people that are very expiration date-conscious.. Haha.. anything that is expired I have to toss and will not let anyone eat it/use it! My mom on the other hand.. "There is no mold/it's ok!" thing.. Haha..

Well, for me, it depends on the food item...
For food that can turn moldy, then no, I only eat it if it's a day or two past the expired date (bread, butter, cakes, milk, etc)
For other foods, then yes, I eat it up to half year past the expired date. (chips, crackers, granola bars, juice boxes, soy sauce, etc)

Of course not. I'm like your mom, I think its all ok and just eat it. Cant waste $ you know.

I follow it like crazy.
Even days before milk is to expire, I make sure to sniff to ensure it's not potent with grossness.

I don't really care but with bread, I'll only eat it 2-3 past expiration date. no more than that. Other food, as long as it doesn't look moldy then I'm ok. Haha

Most of it is okay as long as it looks edible, lol.
I fail in the kitchen, since my stomach usually wins over my common sense.
If it smells alright, and looks alright, I'll eat it. xD
Of course if there's like mold growing all over it, I'll throw it out.

i read the all of the expiration dates for foods before i purchase them in the store. i also closely inspect it before i even buy it. food can go bad before the expiration date so i try to make sure it hasnt spoiled when its in the fridge or in the cabinet. i live in hawaii and food spoils really quick.

I follow it xD
I get sick easily by foods that expire anyways so yea lol

Mar 3 2008, 09:10 PM
For me, I toss anything expired, whether it's by one day or two days. Expiration dates are there for a reason - they're the dates when the food goes BAD or isn't fresh anymore. Why would you push it and still consume the food? You're putting your health at risk.

Funny. I just debated over adding expired milk to my cereal this morning.
I do not throw anything out until I:
a ) Do the sniff test. I have a fairly keen nose, so I trust it to tell me what's truly heinous and past due.
b ) When a) seems fine, I move on to a tiny taste. I keep a glass of water nearby, of course.
Yeah, this is gross to some, but I didn't survive college without a car and sharing a fridge with five girls for no reason.

I'm picky; I'd throw it out. If it's only 1 or 2 days, though, and looks/smells fine, then that's okay (usually).

I am very conscious of the expiration dates. But my mom is different. If it still smell and looks good then it's fine. She evenboils one day overdue milk to drink.

Most of the time I always follow it.
But with that bread, I would eat it. But check thoroughly for mold or any signs of decomposition.

I swear I'll die of food poisoning one day. lol
There's like thousand island sause in the fridge now that expired like in 2000? O_O

yea.. generally, esp for dairy products. i just can't bring myself to drink milk that is past it's shelf date.. i just get really paranoid. but i eat the bread if it's not moldy-- like if you reallly want a sandwich and you have all the ingredients and the bread is alright looking, then i'll make the sandwich!

I usually follow the expiry dates. But some things, I don't really care. Like chips, I'll still eat them if they're a year old and the bag's not open. If some foods still look good and don't have mold, I'll eat it.
