I don't think you can get far suing them because lots of laptops "crap" out, which include but not limited to HP.
To be quite honest, I would never touch anything from HP. My cousin worked there and helped assemble and test some of the units and we'd alway receive free HP products (desktops, laptops, etc), and often, they were not very reliable (there were no shortage of returns).
As far as their Pavillion series goes.. there's a reason why its cheap.. its really one of their lower end models thats not built to last but built to sell.
Haha ... my HP Compaq desktop lasted 4 years, with the only things changed are the memory and video card.

For my HP Pav laptop, it's been working fine as well for the past year or so more.

Sometimes I see a lot of users blaming the company for laptop problems when it's the user-end that's making problems with the laptop.

Problems:
The remote control was too small to fit, the microphone did not work, and the battery only lasted for a few months (30~60 minutes). Now that the warranty has expired, the computer does not even restart correctly. It does not restart completely, the screen is still black, and it restarts continuously. The wireless that is built into the computer is not even working as well. This is an issue that all the HP Pavilion dv6000 seems to be having.
I did not contact HP Pavilion until I realized my warranty has expired because I thought I was using the built in microphone incorrectly, the remote control was not a big deal, and I did not know about the battery issue until way later. The issues with the restarting and wireless is a recent issue.
OP, this is why you test a way before the warranty expires. If it doesn't work the first time, bug HP or find a solution to the problem and just don't let it sit dead. V_V
Computer not restarting correctly sounds like an operating system problem, not a hardware problem. Also, j/w, how do you use wireless if you can't use your computer? lol ... depending on what wireless you use, I actually have the same problem. I tried fixing it but it didn't work as well as wireless cards I bought in it's place. :3
