So, this year I'm a senior at this math and science school. I chose to take some AP classes for the fun of it, not sure if I regret it or not yet haha. Well, my schedule is as follows:
AP Physics
AP Calculus BC
AP Statistics
AP English Literature
Government and Economics
Japanese 7-8
School Annual
My counselor wouldn't let me add in Art 3-4 or university psych D':
Anyway. To be honest, I don't find this year ALL that bad. I get less sleep on average (a few hours a night), and sometimes I'm really stressed out, but overall, I think it's okay... Compared to a lot of people, I have it a lot easier!! The only problem I have is I got a B in Physics last semester, and it's really bothering me... I have a hard time in that class, but other than that the courses aren't really too difficult. Actually, I think that statistics is really fun! :'D
However, my sister and my friends (and even my parents sometimes) all look at me and think, "Why did you take these classes? It's your senior year! You're supposed to be having fun!" Whereas, my opinion is that, it's your last year in high school. You should be making the most of it, because it's the last time you're ever going to have classes for free again. Not to mention, it looks bad if you slack off in your senior year XD; Also, besides Psychology, Spanish Language, and Spanish Literature, these are the only AP classes my school offers, and of these four classes, Statistics is the only one that you don't have to be a senior to take (but the class just started this year). The more AP classes I take (and pass...! T__T), the more credit I can transfer to colleges... maybe I could save money like that~? lol
I know that some people hate difficult classes, but if I'm interested or motivated enough, I sometimes really enjoy studying. Maybe not for like physics, but I think some of the stuff we learn is really fun o.x; When I learned L'Hopital's Rule I thought it was so cool 8D lol
So, anyway, I guess my question is....
As a high school student (or college student, if you're reading this), do you feel that you should take the senior year to relax and have a good time, or not?

Senior year is definitely a time to relax but alsooo to continue working hard.
I think the way you think: the more AP classes I take now, the more I'll save on college. haha if they colleges accept AP scores though.
You seem to do well in the majority of those classes so it's all gooddd. You should definitely go out and enjoy yourself though. Too much work + no play = boring. That's how my calculus mind works. LoL!

I'm a senior too and my schedule is similar to yours, taking 5 APs classes. However, the workload is really not that bad at all this year. I think the teachers realized that we need time to chill out, lol.
You can definitely take AP classes a have a fun time at the same time!

Yeah, I'm an upcoming senior and most of friends plan on taking their
basics, English, Government (half-semester), science and maybe a math.
I don't plan on doing that, because I attend the same school my mother works at
and I don't have a car, I'd rather not waste 5 hours of school. So, I'm gonna take the full
7.
I have a question though, when I was at my old school, I was taking AP English.
It was hard and my grade was low, but now that I've transferred schools and they don't
offer AP English for juniors, I'm stuck taking Acc. English. Which is easy breezy.
However, I'm thinking of taking AP English next year, despite the protest of my
mother. But I don't want to take regular or acc, because its too easy and boring.

"do you feel that you should take the senior year to relax and have a good time, or not?"i think you should take whatever you can handle. i'm not the kind of person who stresses easily and so i'm pretty relaxed this year.
it's funny because i'm actually doing much better in my classes this year than I did my junior year.
anyway, the thing about this year is that in addition to studying for AP tests to get out of classes in college, we (well at least I) have to focus on college apps and scholarships.
i also have to waste time doing this lame graduation project for the community because my school's retarded. anyway, throw in some part-time jobs and whatnot, and it seems like senior year is really jam-packed. but the thing is.. it really isn't

everyone thinks, 'oh yeah. you should relax senior year & slack off. just get B's and you're good to go.' i can't think like that though. it's hard for me to drop my work ethnic and be satisfied with a B when I know I can do better. also, when people find out i have 4 AP classes, they're like 'wtf. how can you handle that?' but seriously, i have SO MUCH FREE TIME. its really not bad. so far, senior year has actually been pretty sweet.

depends on how you are in school and what you're doing, but nope, i wouldn't relax... sometimes i think i relaxed too much though, and it didn't pay off well.
you should follow on only what you can do, not what other people are telling you what happened to them. it's your future, afterall.
still relax a bit but don't relax too much. and don't think that just by getting B's, it's all okay. because it's easier to fail than to pass.

I had 5 AP classes last semester, and 4 this semester (AP Psych was a one semester class):
AP Physics
AP Statistics
AP Gov't
AP English
Journalism
My schedule is quite simple cause I dropped 6th & 7th period from last semester cause there was no reason to keep them.
Last semester I was DYING trying to balance my 5 AP classes, upcoming Academic Decathlon competition, & being editor-in-chief for the newspaper along with college apps, scholarships and what-not..
but this semester I'm a lot more chill. Haha.
Since my school's on a block schedule I get out at 1pm 2/3 of the time (3pm on others..) and I also have a parttime job every single day..
And my AP classes are still super difficult - physics & government esp are A LOT of work. ugh!
I COMPLETELY slacked off in the first 5 weeks tho :\
I don't even KNOW what grades I have.. haha

Wow your schedule looks a lot like mine from last year. o__O
Anyways to me and most of my friends, 'relaxing' meant taking 3 AP classes this year and since one was only for the first half of the year, and half of my classes now are just graduation requirements it's a LOT more relaxed. I guess in a way though that's kind of bad since it's a bad habit to be this lazy... D:
AP Classes are way more fun than their regular high school counterparts though, I must admit. <3 xD

For me, senior year is stressful. All of the seniors in my class believe the same thing. Maybe it's partly because I really can't stop caring. Even if grades are locked in (which they are not as of right now), I'd probably still care about grades. I just can't wait until AP week is over. THEN, school will be much better...what with our calculus teacher's "Movie Testing" days planned and all. ahaha
As a high school student (or college student, if you're reading this), do you feel that you should take the senior year to relax and have a good time, or not?
I think that you should finish out what you started. I don't see a reason to spend 3 hard years to get what you want just to waste it all during your fourth year. Don't get me wrong. I still believe that you should enjoy senior year, as it is your final year of high school, but I still think that you can still work hard in school while still enjoy senior year. Although senior year is stressful, i still enjoy my teachers and my friends and I still manage to hang out once in a while.

My senior year classes:

Honors Economics
Honors American Government (both of these honors classes at my school are AP's, really; they're changing their names to AP starting next year)
Advanced Composition
Critical Reading of Literature
French II
PE 12 (required)
Physics
I don't know who came up with the idea that you should relax during your senior year. Yes, I think you should make the most of it by going to prom and stuff with your friends. Yes, you feel relaxed after you know you've been accepted to a college you want to go to. But no, it doesn't mean you should take easy classes.
"Fun" for me isn't just going out with friends. At my school relatively few people take AP/honors classes, so we usually get the same small pool of people in those classes. For example, there's only one class for AP chem and one class for AP calc BC this year. Somehow that makes us closer -- not just each person studying on their own, you know. We go through the difficult assignments and tests together and all. Taking harder classes is a great experience if you have great classmates and friends.
...but honestly, in calculus class I do nothing but eat candy half the time (though I got A's both trimesters so far)

yes i do feel like senior year is a time to relax and have a good time, because a majority of friends will be moving away for college, whether it'd be a few cities away or out of state and you won't be seeing much of them so it'd be the best time to hang out and really get to know eachother...and you have prom and all these fun events

For real? Senior year is my busiest year EVER. I've been super stressed and super busy all the time, it might be because I have to balance a job and club stuff, but I do think that senior year should NOT be a time for relaxing. Come on now, the next year we're all going to be in college, it shouldn't be a time for relaxing. But I also think that cramming your schedule isn't fun. I can't believe I'm taking 4 AP classes this year... and the other two classes on my schedule aren't offered as AP classes. Our teachers just set a 3 AP class maximum for next year though; I think it's a shame doing that to people who can actually take that and do well.
It's funny though, cause I've been doing pretty well this year despite my busy schedule. I don't really regret taking so many AP courses, but I do wish I could get more sleep!!

Yeah... at my school, we have a ton of people taking AP's... so we don't get that same closeness I guess. But, in calculus and when I took psychology, a few of my friends and I made the class more fun by "competing" for the top grade. Nothing serious, just something fun to motivate us. ;D [I didn't know they require PE after grade 10! haha at my school we only need 2 years]

well, that's basically my classes for the whole year.... some are only two tri long and some are one tri long... but the first two tri of this year, i had all my ap classes and college in school classes and omg was that crazy! the work load for them was unbelieveable and seriously, sometimes i thought i was gonna die from the stress of all the classes... but it was nice too because most of my friends were in the same classes and i had fun in all my ap classes...the study groups were also a lot of fun! and now, in our last tri, i have a bunch of easy classes and it feels so nice to not have half as much work as i did in the first two tri...
i honestly think that it's okay to have fun your senior year but you should def take hard classes too... cause if you're planning on going to college, you don't want to get used to slacking off other wise, freshmen year is gonna be h***...

Well, since my school doesn't offer AP classes and I'm too lazy to figure out how to register for AP classes... My classes for my last year of high school are:
Economics
Advanced Functions
Calculus and Vectors
Instrumental Music
English
Data Management
International Business
Business Leadership
And I'm taking a full course load right there, no spares or anything. At times I feel a little stressed out and really wonder why I didn't take a spare, but I find that with most of my assignments I can actually leave them off until the last night and finish them in a night or two. I guess with some of the courses, I need to work for a high mark. But that's really only the math courses for me, except for Data Management and English. The rest of my classes are pretty easy and I can just slack off in them. Sleep or just fool around. But on top of those eight courses, I juggle a lot of extracurriculars which help keep me calm and gives me something else to do and focus on other than homework and assignments. Even though I'm in over 10 extracurriculars, they don't really stress me out. And I guess it sort of teaches me to manage my time well.
But yeah... You should be able to have some fun during the last year of high school. It's not always about homework and projects, you have to be able to live a little. You should also be able to hangout on the weekends with your friends just so you don't get all burnt out from the stress and concentration on school work.

As a current college student, I say NO, it is NOT time to relax.
If you do not end up taking the AP's you will truly regret it. In college, your position to register classes is based mostly on your credits or units or whatever you call it. My friend came into my school with 0 because he never took ap's. He's had the hardest time in his life just getting into gen bio. In the UC's they won't even care. This is why some people take 5 years to graduate. They never get the classes they want. People from the Bay area have some program where they take community college and get school credit too. They are loaded with units. My friend was senior standing freshman year. I think he could graduate with just a few GE's... seriously.
In addition, if you think you are having fun now in high school, wait until college. You will have the best experience in your life. I would never trade my college experience for anything else. High school was a joke in comparison to the friendships I have now.
In college, there's less stress (I'm only taking 3 classes this semester). There's no homework (for the most part... depending on your major. I'm a science major) and there's only tests to worry about.
You'll make up the fun you missed senior year in high school in a month in college!

Here is my schedule for senior year:
AP Government
Honors Economics
Honors Japanese IV
AP Calculus BC
AP Literature/Composition
Humanities
Yearbook/Journalism
AOP x2
My schedule this is pretty chill because I'm on block schedule. I don't find it nearly as stressful as those who are taking regular courses instead of AP/Honors courses.

Most people say that the last year in high school is suppose to be fun and what not but to me it's nowhere near fun. I have way too much stuff to worry about. And I only have 4 classes to take, 3 AP and 1 Art. AP English Lit, AP GOvernment, and AP Chemistry. I also have to worry about applying to colleges and scholarships. I'm not so worry about applying to colleges anymore, that part is over. THANK GOD!!! But I do have less classes, which kinda helps.

For the other 2 hours, I get to go to the hospital or different medical sites and volunteer there. It's pretty neat.

Err, I'm currently a senior right now too and I'm pretty much done with all
of my AP courses. I think my school's schedule is a lot different from everyone
else's. It's similar to a block schedule. We have 8 classes total but they're split
up by semester. We have two semesters, therefore 4 classes per semester.
It decreases the 'average' homework load by far, haha, and makes AP
courses go by waaaaaaaaaay faster.
Hm. This year, I've taken~
(First Semester -- first half of the year)
AP English Composition
AP Statistics
AP Art History
AP Latin
(Right now -- second half of the year)
Child Development
Parenting
Ancient History
Law & Society
Right now I'm just breezing through and relaxing. :]
My school has tutoring sessions in like April for people who
need help refreshing their AP courses. But for the main part,
you're on your own. xD
All of my classes weren't as hard as them seemed.
You just have to pay attention and read.

I regret relaxing my senior year. All the courses I picked are really easy. I think this played a big factor in my not getting into better universities. I decided to step down from AP English, not take a fourth year of math, and take no APs this year. I get absolutely no homework every day and I never study for my tests and I'm getting straight A's senior year. All of my friends are really smart and taking a bunch of APs, so I feel left out a lot too since they talk about their classes and whatever. A lot of times I feel useless too. My junior year was spent getting very little sleep since I took 3 AP courses, so I kind of miss the stress and pressure haha. Plus I feel like my classmates are pulling me down especially in English since there's a big difference between regular English and AP English.
But in the end, I just want to get out of high school. I've already gotten into my top three choices, and though they're nothing compared to the UCs, I'm happy. So it feels like a lot of Senior year is just a waste of my time.
