Why should you be offended?
Turtle is part of a lot of culture and is consider a love making trigger.
And their not those cute little pet turtles. They are farmed rised and is a certain breed that is meant to be eaten.
I haven't tried turtle yet but I wouldn't mind either.

I have had it before, several times. It's pretty common, at least in China. It's supposed to be really goof for health and of course is pretty expensive.

I don't think there's anything wrong with eating turtle. Though I think turtles are cute, and I would never eat a turtle myself, unless someone was eating it already, and since it's already been killed, then I would eat it because if I didn't then it's body would be wasted.
But anyway, I don't see why eating turtle is different from eating duck/chicken/cow. Cows are really cute and intelligent animals, you know. But people eat beef without a second thought. In other cultures it may be "messed up" to eat turtle, even dog or cat or snake, but what about cows, chickens and pigs? It's not like they're brainless animals who don't feel pain. But people gotta eat, so that's what we eat.
Though there are limits to what I'd be willing to eat. If it's a rare animal then I won't eat it/order it, unless somone else already ordered it and its been killed already, so then it wouldn't have been killed for nothing.

I've never had turtle before, but I would try it. I've seen it in Chinese supermarkets before, but they're pretty expensive. All I know is that they're good for your health.
It also reminds me of this one episode of Iron Chef (the original one, not the rip off Iron Chef America... >_>), where turtle was the secret ingredient. I couldn't watch them cutting and pulling them apart.

I've seen live turtles at the local chinese supermarket.
and believe me, these aint the cute little turtles you keep as pets.
Regardless though, its kinda nasty looking.
my motto is, if it looks good to eat, then its probably good to eat.
If it looks nasty, its probably going to taste nasty.
so no turtles for me

my grandma bought a turtle home once, and let it swim around in our tub (it was huge!)
but the cruuel cruel thing was how she went about *trying* to kill it
she would pour pots and pots of boiling water on it, and it would spaz every time the water hit its shell
but after that didnt work, she just went about with a machete and started to pry open its shell while it was still alive....(i had to leave the room at this point, couldnt take it)
needless to say, i refused to eat anything that night :'[
