So I felt like discussing height....but to make the thread more credible, do you often feel taller people are more "powerful"?

But anyway, how tall are you? I just looked up my height converted to inches...and I'm only 5'5 boo. I always thought I was 5'6. Supposedly that's taller in Asians, but I still feel about average height walking around.
SeeinGxStarS
Taller is not always more powerful smile.gif

I'm 6'0 Feet Tall.

Renesis

I recalled reading somewhere that people that holds higher position such as CEOs are usually taller. CEO on average are about 6', but of course that is not in every case.

The average American height is about 5'9 (175cm) for male and 5'4 (162cm) for female. Asians for male are about 5'7 (170cm) and females are 5'3 (160cm) but varies depending on region.

im about 5'10 or 178 cm.
thislove
Everyone's taller than me, I'm only 5'0 yeah really small. So everywhere I go I'm always having trouble seeing beyond me and everyone I talk to well(mostly) everyone I have to look up dry.gif
bonjourjoan
I'm 5'3 or 160 cm...in my family I'm tallest amongst my mom and my older sister, so when I'm around them I feel tall
but in general I'm just average, especially here in California...
I think as long as your body looks roportioned it's okei...you could always use fashion to make you look taller..^-^
Lebanese_Blonde
i am 5'1...shorter than my korean mother! ASFASDF
i think i had scoliosis as a child and i never got it fixed so it might have contributed to my stunted growth. anyway...whenever i go to job interviews i always wear heels because I don't like being seen as a child. i don't want to be 'cutesy' either..i want to be "beautiful" but i don't know...i'm kind of short ^^;;
watcher
i'm about ~184cm [just above 6'0"]
people tend to like taller people more and are looked upon more favorably
some people treat me well just because they like tall people
some girls tell me they wouldn't have hung out with me [when i asked them the first time] if i was a shortie
i think being tall has it's advantages... albeit unfair
HERMIT
I'm an astoundingly little runt at 5'2.35"
Stick a ballcap on me and I look like an older, overweight version of Short Round from "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" movie. mellow.gif

And to corroborate what watcher says, chicks generally don't dig me.
thtlam
I'm about 5'1 but I wear shoes all the time so it helps add another inch or at least I think it does

I wear shoes too and I believe it adds an inch, maybe even two. Unfortunately for me, it's not where I really prefer it to be. tears.gif

Everyone has this obsession with tall guys...I dunno why. But to be honest, I don't want a short guy either =P Although I suppose I could live with it....

I hate wearing heels....kills my feet gahhh. But if I wear them, I could feel powerful! And tall! I used to wear platforms and feel powerful! (don't mind my incoherentness)
wr3ck3dd
5'10 =) and no people aren't more powerful because they're tall lol
chibi_chibi
<.< I"m only 4'10 or maybe I'm 4'11, but the point is I'm short. Everyone says I look like a 12 year old and I'm not good with heels, so I stick with tennis shoes and flats. Though I really need to start wearing heels since I am in the business industry. Which reminds me, I feel insecure that people may not take me seriously once I get in(or trying to get in) the working field because of my height. Other than that I love being at my height. Haha
Pogichinoy
I'm 6'/6' 1" (186cm) and it does help to be at this height. My current and past gfs love it, and so do my friends.

It is a great advantage in sport and also you tend to get a bit more attention in the workplace.

Shorter people make up for their height disadvantage by being more loud. At least some do. tongue.gif
jaceone
I'm 5'4" / 5'5". I'm the tallest in my family but one of the shortest amongst my guy friends.

It sucks that I'm so short and I student teach at a high school. Security used to ask me for my hall pass when I'd walk to the teachers' lounge.
boka
i'm 174cm

i work in a hospital lab and i find self-reported height and weight is often misestimated... every other male will overestimate his height and maybe one in three females will underestimate her weight - i have to pretend i didn't see their little patient details chart and measure/weigh everyone myself just to get their real details.

it's ridiculous, some men who are around the 175cm mark will round up to 180cm not realising that 5cm in height is extremely noticeable around the average height range.

I'm 5'4" ph34r.gif ph34r.gif

This thread makes me feel kinda tall (female-wise)
Kristen Kim
I'm 5'9 (Although I sometimes tell people I'm 5'8 lol, seems less threatening) It's not so easy being tall when you're a woman >.< I got the height from my dad, he's 6'3 but my mother is a shorty at 5'4.
Turtleman
You and I are about the same height. dry.gif
Kristen Kim
^ I'm taller than you with heels, get back to study lol
Turtleman
Oh yeah, well you should be in class.lol
mrs. pakman
5'7-8ish and proud of it. i love being tall. and you will often see me wearing 3 inch heels when i'm out too.
i had a really hard time when i was younger...being the tall, lanky, awkward girl...
but i've learned to love it.
Bamidele
I'm only 5'4, but I have always been attracted to guys over 6'foot. Your not tall to me if your not 6 foot or above:) But I think that taller people seem more powerful, because you notice their presence more and faster. My little brother is 6'3 and you definitely notice him when he walks into a room.
addicted2kdrama
i'm 5'11 or 6. People think they are taller than me cause I slouch but when I stand up straight, i'm taller than most people.
yojan17
I'm 5'3"/f. But I think I look taller because I'm skinny. biggrin.gif
negitoro
I'm like 5'11" or so and I guess I'm above average height.

I've never really felt 'powerful' though. Back when I lived in Asia as a kid I felt taller but more in the "stick out like a sore thumb" kind of way. I mean, it's not really in more personality to exude confidence which pretty much nullifies the height advantage.

The most positive thing that comes to mind is I have been told by my gf and exes that they like my height and that they can wear heels without worrying about being taller than me.

The book "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell (also the author of "The Tipping Point") mentions this. He also mentions it is easier for taller people to get jobs in general because of first impressions.
Anyways, if you are interested, it is a good read, and I recommend it.

Back on topic, I'm 5'1" with shoes. I wish I was taller, even if it is a little (hard to find pants!).
I'm pretty much the shortest around all my friends... And pretty much just about everyone I meet, lol.
Doesn't help that I look young either.

FACT: Tall guys get more girls.

I'm 6'1" and yeah I do feel a lot more confident and powerful.

hahaha i notice that too
a good rule of thumb for the internet:
reported height - 2.5 inches = actual height (standard deviation of 0.5")

having said that
I am 5'11.5 aka 5'9

and i admit i do feel intimidated among really tall people like 6'2+
i hate looking up at them - makes me feel like a child

FACT: Tall guys get more girls.

I think this is generally true until you hit your mid twenties and then a bigger wallet seems to trump height. Of course if you have both then the world is your oyster.

FACT #2: Most bosses of companies or corporations are tall.

175cm (almost 5'9)

& I'm the shortest one in my family - everyone's over 180 cm.

there's alot of control games height can play. After all, taller people do (literally) look down on you.

my random rant for the day...

lots of girls set standards on a guy based on height, and it's just swept under a rug
but when guys set standards on weight and figure for girls, it's like he's a jerk and shallow
at least girls can work on it and attain somewhat of a standard by healthy diet and exercise
guys wont grow more no matter what they do
plus, i know plenty of girls who prefer not to date overweight men
[though i do admit that women generally have a higher tolerance, but the standard is still there and very real]
we can also throw the wealth factor into this fire, but that's another topic
just wanted to throw in examples covering physical attraction tongue.gif

standing up straight meaning correcting your posture and maintaining the correct S-form of your back bone would add a little cm or atleast make you feel a little taller...

at times i feel a little taller than my actual height, 160 cm, depending on my mood and clothes that i wear...and most of all by the people surrounding me ^-^

i'm 5'6. i want to be taller because i act like i'm a 6 feet tall huge person.
miyukihime
I'm 5'7 although I wish I was sometime shorter though. I stand out like a sore thumb at family gatherings and 5'7 isn't that tall.
eatadandelion
im 5'5 , i really wish i was taller though! my cousin is 15 years old and she's already taller than I am, which is really sad.

Yeah I agree, almost every single girl I've talked to wouldn't date a guy shorter than her...although some do, but they have that mind set before they look for a guy. I think I only care because of societal norms. Personally, it doesn't make a difference to me. Okay so that's an excuse, oh well, too bad.

Well, usually when someone is 6 feet, they're not going to be very "fat"....at least I hardly see people who are that tall and still quite chubby. High metabolism or something? Who knows....
klx13
I'm 5'1" and wish I were taller. Height does have some effect for first impressions but in the end, personality and charisma trump any physical characteristics I think. My BF is not that tall (5'7") and calls himself not so good looking, but he has a great personality and a lot of social intelligence. One of my good friends (female) is 4'10" but has an outgoing and super lovable personality that captures everyone's attention.

I wouldn't date a guy shorter than me, but then again, I've never seen a guy (my age) that was shorter than me haha. The shortest guy I ever dated was 5'4" and it didn't really matter to me since I rarely wore heels back then.
little mixed girl
i'm 5'3, but i don't think i have any obsession with height.
when it comes to guys, i prefer that they are a little taller than me, but i don't want to be with someone that's too tall.
i think 5'9 or 5'10 is too tall for me. when i'm around really tall people...i want to kick them in the shins.
Lucia
mellow.gif I'm 5"1... My mom is even shorter than me. My dad and brother are quite tall though. I guess the height issue is only a problem for the females in my household. I don't feel short where I live since it's heavily populated with people around my height. I think if I moved more easttwards, I'd definitely notice my lack of height. Although I don't think I would want my boyfriend to be shorter than me... it wouldn't be very probable that a guy around my age would be shorter than me. unsure.gif
Janggoon1
I'm 5'11...it's adequate, but in order qualify as a model (my aspiration)....it would be much easier if I was a couple inches taller.
BL!NG
178 cm... (I dunno how tall is that in feet) mellow.gif
I'm kinda over-weight sweatingbullets.gif and when I tell my friends my real weight.. they are like crazy.gif NOWAY~... then they say I don't look over weight AT ALL coz I'm tall so the weight is distributed evenly!
^actually that what happens to me all the time... it's like the constant praise I get in my life!
baoi
you are not powerful when you're tall, but you FEEL the power of looking down at everyone who's shorter.
i wish i was tall.. sad.gif

I'm 5'3 and a guy. My chances are very slim........
iove
I'm 5'0, female, and somewhat proportional for my height. Being taller would be nice, but I feel perfectly fine with my height. I do wish it was easier to find jeans/pants. Recently, I do feel an attraction toward taller guys, but I attribute that to the fact my dad was tall. But I've come to like the height interaction between the two heights. I don't rule out "shorter" guys though, because everyone would be taller than 5'0 me.

I am 5'1 but I wish I was taller like 5'5. It's harder for me to find jeans/pants because my legs are so short sad.gif
