So recently, the state issued a ton of pink slips to teachers across my district.
The thing is, because my school is relatively new, so are the teachers. Because pink slips were issued to teachers based off of seniority, 80% of the teachers that were cut came from my school, which equates to at least 41% of our school staff, and essentially destroys ROTC, virtually all art classes, etc. Crazy right? Some of the most qualified teachers are being fired just because they haven't been teaching for as long. :|

[Pink Slips = being let off]

Anyways, how has mister Arnold Schwartfiajlfjsdafl [can't spell his name to save my life XD] 's decision to decrease our already super low educational funds affected you? O: [If you live in California, that is. I highly doubt this would affect someone living in Alaska.]

I've talked about this with my teacher recently.. I heard that 1/3 of Bay Area teachers got pink slips. That's a LOT of teachers. At my school, there are some really good new-ish (not all are THAT new) teachers who got the pink slips.. and I think there was a protest at the city hall in my city just this Tuesday.

If so many get laid off, I think it will really affect my school because my school isn't all that big and the teachers really support the students and most teach well..
kokopuff!
who cares about obesity, bring back the vending machines. they were revenue makers for schools. its been a while since i've been out of high school but i liked gray davis other than his stupid handling of ENRON.

all i see Arnold do is go to stupid events like NBA basketball games.
PDURRR
oh yeah i forgot about those vending machines
yep
and they should definitely start selling overpriced snacks again too

i read a letter the school sent to my little brother
sucks..
and to think of all those future teachers/currently interning at school...
i'm considering being a teacher..but i think i might have to move to another state if i do..if this continues T_T..

Koko: Yeah seriously. People go out and buy their own sodas and crap anyways, so banning soda machines really isn't doing anything. :/

silentxtears: Hopefully if enough people dissent, we can fix this mess. D:

Arnold's decision will in fact probably end up affecting Mississippi. Mississippi gets some of the money for
education through taxes from California and New York (the big states). If they're having troubles, so will we. Not
that most kids would notice, because the education here is decent, but far behind what it should be.

chinese tears <3
Yeah, after the budget cuts California is going to be ranked 50th for education based on how much they spend on each student. My teacher said that next year my school is taking out our career center, the library, some transportation, advisers, etc. It's crazy stupid... we need those things. Well not the advisers; a lot of students are happy to see some of them go. But yeah, the new teachers are getting pink slips. I think it should be the other way around though... because a lot of teachers at my school are actually able to retire already. The new teaches are the ones who need a job and will lead America's "future generation" haha. It just feels really depressing. I'm glad I'm graduating this year but I feel horrible for the younger students.. and I want to become a teacher too. >.<;; It's sad too because California was flourishing a few years back... but then after we get all that money we decided to spend everything. Sigh, why did we pick Arnold? sleep.gif

Time to move out of California! ph34r.gif I don't know about other people, but I wouldn't really want my kids educated here. Despite how great of a reputation our UCs have.

^wow that sucks some major ass
the career center is really helpful and nice...well at my school it was
they would post jobs and let you type papers and stuff

well after this
i hope this makes california vote more often and choose the right people
especially when CA is SUCH a big state alot of people are affected...really sucks ass!! mellow.gif

Over here in San Gabriel, it isn't as traumatizing since we're ghetto enough.
This is the first year we have to pay for parking at school, $30 for the whole year. They're probably going to cut some of the AP classes since not a lot of students take them. We can't have field trips anymore because they're not paying for substitute teachers. If the teacher is out, even for sick days, they have to pay for their own substitutes [but the teachers cheat the system by having other teachers with free periods teach]. Our Grad trip was going to be held at school, but the seniors fought back and ended up with the traditional Disneyland.
And I wonder how much worse it can get next year. I'm glad it's my last year here...

One of our older teachers was ranting about how California has the 7th largest economy in the world. Like just California. But how we spend like 33,000 on each prisoner and yet we only invest like$33 dollars in our students.

o.o blah. arnold is stupid either way
bBy_sT4r

and the budget cut is also affecting admissions to UCs and CSUs... so if some ppl with good enough stats still didn't get into some colleges, thats why.
