QUOTE
Last month Audi invited a team of 12 journalists to race from Paris to Madrid in an Audi A4 2.0 TDI. To win the race, the journalists had to average the best fuel-economy while avoiding filling up their tank during the trip.
The winners, Nicholas Demberville and Richard Tallet averaged a fuel-economy of 53mpg with their A4 which is powered by a 2.0 TDI 4-cylinder common-rail diesel engine producing 143-hp. Completing the 782 mile trip, the two managed to extract a total of 900 miles on a single tank with a couple of fuel-saving tricks and strategies.
Other teams were not too far behind averaging a fuel consumption of 52, 51 and 50 miles to the gallon.

even if its low power....53?!?!?!
well i guess its possible....
semi light car and constant speed of 65ish
cuz with my heavy car ive gotten over 34mpg going constant 80 on highway

Diesel cars are going to make a come back with the way gas prices are shooting up.

It's $4.01 for regular and $4.18 for premium here in Guam.

My GTI actually gets 35-40 mpg if I drive a constant 55-65 mph. But I drive at 80+ and get 28-30. I'm sure with a diesel and lower hp, I can squeeze good mpg.

Wait i'm retarded it said TDI...

Well most diesels or all have a Turbo to increase the fuel economy and increase power. I remember Top Gear getting a A6 Diesel for 600 miles.

Even with the marginal price difference of diesel over gasoline. The MPG would be worth it. Same here in GU as well..

its not "marginal"
i just drove by a chevron....diesel is 40 cents four-zero cents higher than premium!
lol im sure other places are less difference but it would still be at least 10 cents more per gallon
Chioster
Well lets do some calculations and find out if its worth it, 40 cents more.

If you fill up your tank with $30's

I used some calculations of $3.59 for Gasoline and $3.99 for Diesel
A normal Gasoline engine combined does around 25 gallons if its a small I4 while a diesel can do a combined 40mpg.

With some quick calculations, a Gasoline will do 210miles on that $30 while a Diesel will do 300miles. So a Diesel is worth it up to a certain point biggrin.gif

The diesel here is 2 cents less than the premium at $4.16 vs. $4.18.
