bitter gourd is a popular vegetable used in okinawa as a food staple.
people often fry it with egg and glass noodles and some meat.
it is called goya chanpuru
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chanpur%C5%AB\its supposed to be super healthy.
anyone here eat and cook it regularly?
i'm thinking of having a shot cooking it (i have to find some bitter gourd first lol)

yup, it's the equivalent of chinese 'fu gua' or 'ku gua' or just bitter melon. in my cantonese family, fu gua is made stir-friend with beef in a black-bean sauce. YUM!
it is known for it detoxification effects. My friend told me she uses pureed fu gua as a mask!! In the summer, there is bitter melon tea to prevent heat-exhaustion.
