Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer
The book was so touching and very unique as well.
He also wrote Everything is Illuminated, which was made into a film starring Elijah Wood (Extremely Loud is also being made into a film). I'm gonna start reading it now.

I really don't recommend the Twilight series. I've stopped in 2/3 of the way, and I can't get myself to finish.. really don't understand the hype. It's one of the most cliched books I've ever read with simplistic writing style and no character development.
A fantastic thought-provoking book I've read recently is Atonement. It'll just blow you away. I'm just starting on On Chesil Beach and The Innocent by the same author, Ian McEwan, which I've heard are also phenomenal.
I also recommend Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.
Some other favorites: Memoirs of Cleopatra, Wuthering Heights, Push the River, Voice in the Wind, Little Women, Pride and Prejudice, The Count of Monte Cristo, Great Expectations, Match Me if You Can, Nobody's Baby but Mine, Night, Can You Keep a Secret, Anne of Green Gables series, Emily of New Moon series, Oliver Twist, Ain't She Sweet, Survival in Auschwitz..
So much more~

I haven't read anything for awhile either because of school.
But the last book I've read was the first book from the Twilight series and I still can't seem to finish reading it. Honestly, I don't recommend it at all.
Like someon has already mentioned, it has no character development, and it's totally cliche. The vampire factor is the only thing that that really makes it different from other teen novels. But if you want a really really light read and extremely cheesy romance, then I guess it's the book to read.

But some of my favorites are the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella! Quite addicting! Definitely a must read its adorable and a nice light read.
More chick flick kind of books that are great are 'Something Borrowed' and 'Everyone Worth Knowing'.
