For people in the southern United States... mosquito season is coming, and I've already suffered the consequences of being unprepared. (Easter Vigil outside at night... I was eaten alive crazy.gif .)

Unfortunately, I'm one of many people who are allergic and have really bad reactions. When I get bitten, I have red bumps that typically last for a month or more (I also get left with scars that still become inflamed from time to time.)

Naturally, I would turn to bug sprays, etc. but I'm allergic to those too. dry.gif

What natural tips/remedies do you have for avoiding/treating bits?

Ones that I've heard of:
Avoid eating bananas--the oil that your body produces from eating them attract mosquitoes.
Wear light-colored clothing--mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors.
DEEJAY*KAT
don't breathe?

carbon dioxide that we breathe out attracts them to us at night.

....

jk sweatingbullets.gif but they are attracted carbon dioxide. are you allergic to the candle-like repellents also?
i heard olive oil, lemon balm, or eating garlic helps.

^I've actually never tried those candles, but I'm looking for a more convenient treatment that will protect me at all times.

What's lemon balm?

i heard mosquitos are more attracted to fat/sweaty/dirty people. so i stay away from them LOL

this ones a theory of mine but i also think mosquitos dislike cigarette smoke... so when im smoking one i dont get bit. but im sure gettin bit is healthier than smoking tho lol so not very convinient.

how badly are you allergic to the spray? couldnt you spray just your clothes? thats what i do if i have to.. cuz i cant stand having that all over my skin
cldyangel
What exactly in bug spray are you allergic to? Maybe you should try different kinds.
Also, I heard mosquitoes are attracted to light colors o.O

haha ><! I was sitting next to my brother, so that might explain it.

I think all bugs in general dislike smoke, but ><! If I wear the spray, I break out in rashes.
My skin's crazy sensitive.
I can't wear it on my clothes either, 'cause it seeps into your skin.

I'm allergic to deet >.> the stuff that's in basically all bug sprays.
I'm trying to look up stuff online, it seems people are saying they're attracted to both!
haah I'll just scratch that off.

I've learned not to scratch mine, and even without scratching, they end up being huge bruises that throb and hurt to the touch. =/
Does bio oil only work for the scars?
Does it have any scent?
I generally try to wear stuff that's scentless to reduce my chances of attracting any.

Living near the jungle - I've gotten used to mosquito bites already but mosquitoes seem to seek people with higher body temperatures. Just a random fact

Mosquitoes like to suck out blood, right?

I seem to get by just fine by hanging two sandwich bags full of blood by my bedroom window and door. That seems to distract them from me.
pepprmint
take someone you dont like, spray them with something nice and sweet claiming its 'perfume', and send them away. they'll attract all the mosquitos and youll be mosquito free happy.gif

Buy an electrical insect repellent? lolx..as for mosquito bites, you can try dabbing some liquid soap over your bite. I think it can help reduce the itch rolleyes.gif
