Okay I myself had been looking for a program like others and finally found one.
Unlike Riva FLV Encoder or Total Video Converter this one is free and doesn't put those dumb watermarks or have limitations.
Program can be used to convert or watch other formats as well.
Hopefully this isn't a repost...and someone will find it helpful.
Name: SUPER ©
Info: here
Download: [here] (v2007.build.23 (July 4, 2007))
Basic description....(click on the info link above for more):
QUOTE
SUPER © IS UNIVERSAL as it supports a wide variety of input/source file format to play
or encode (to & from).
Supported input source file formats are:
- Video format: 3gp/3g2(Nokia,Siemens,Sony,Ericsson) asf, avi (DivX,H263,H263+,H264,XviD,MPEG4,MSmpeg4 etc..), dat,
fli, flc, flv (used in Flash), mkv, mpg (Mpeg I,Mpeg II), mov(H263,H263+,H264,MPEG4 etc..), mp4(H263,H263+,H264,MPEG4), ogg,
qt, rm, ram, rmvb, str (Play Station), swf (Flash), ts (HDTV), viv, vob, wmv
- Audio format: ac3, amr, mp2, mp3, mp4, mpc, ogg, ra, wav, wma
- AviSynth Script Files: avs. Let you specify advanced encoding commands using AviSynth scripts.
Drag & drop any Audio file or even any VIDEO file and EXTRACT the AUDIO part by converting it to
mp2, mp3, mpc (MusePack), wav, ac3, aac, amr_nb or amr_wb format.
The options I used that work for me is posted below.
It varies from person to person as everyone might not have the same codecs on their own computer.
Just fiddle around with the options and I'm sure you'll get it right.
Download the program, install the program, open it up, change the options, drag the file into the little area at the bottom, check the little box next to the file, click "Encode (Active Job-List Files) button", voila! video will be saved to the destination folder (right-click in the program to get the menu and select a different destination location if you want).
Note For Firefox Users: This program combined with the videodownloader add-on is awesome and you'll have downloaded videos from youtube/google/other sites in no time.

I am glad that there's such a program around. I have a question here, how long does one encoding to avi file usually take for a 40 minutes video? I am trying out the program right now but it's taking about an hour and it's still converting.

Just select it from the drop down menu. Mp3, wma, etc. (audio only)

I'm not sure haven't converted a video that long before, but I think it also depends on how fast your computer is. I've done 10min files before and they take a min. or less to convert.

It's only a converter. You'll have to find another program to rip DVDs or download from websites.

Hello, I have a question here. Does anyone here know of a free program that can split rmvb files directly so that I can upload to youtube. Currently, I have to first convert rmvb files to avi file than split the avi file into smaller files using movie maker, then convert the smaller files into mpeg4 for uploading onto youtube, it's taking up alot of my time and the quality turns out terrible (but this seems to be the only successful method for me until now). I am just wondering how people spilt Rmvb files to upload onto youtube or is there actually a simplier method? Please give me some tips, thanks.

Try this one.If that doesn't work then you can go to download.com, type in "splitting rmvb files," and try out the softwares that comes up.

I have this problem with SUPER, I downloaded the latest version and when I'm converting my files to a Ipod Video format, my input file is 170mb but the output is only 17mb and also it doesn't play, it says bad name or header problem? Its actually happened a few times with the older version of Super as well.
