Cuthbert to be 'My Sassy Girl'
LOS ANGELES, July 24 (UPI) -- Elisha Cuthbert, who rose to fame on the U.S. TV series "24," is said to be prepared to assume the title role in the upcoming Hollywood film, "My Sassy Girl."
Daily Variety reported the 23-year-old actress is in final negotiations to play an energetic young woman who disrupts the life of a man living in a small Midwestern town in the Yann Samuell-directed film.
The film's screenplay, written by Vic Levin, was originally adapted from a romantic comedy created in South Korea.
After gaining popularity playing the daughter of Kiefer Sutherland's lead character on "24," Cuthbert has starred in a series of films, with the most recent being Frank Cappello's "He Was a Quiet Man" and the thriller "Captivity."
Variety said that "Sassy Girl," being produced by Gold Circle Films, is set to begin filming in New York on Oct. 16.

ELISHA CUTHBERT??? Wow, I'd like to see this now...lol. I can't picture her taking Jeon Ji Hyun's place in My Sassy Girl.

We'll see. I wonder who will play the role of Gyunwoo

It's just weird in an American version, I'm 100% sure that I'll like the Korean better lol. No offense :X, it's just ... weird. I didn't like The Lake House compared to Il Mare.
Jeon Ji Hyun rocks! I just watched the new movie she was in called Daisy. Highly recommended

Jul 30 2006, 08:12 PM
I agree, and don't believe it will be as good as the original. Not even half as good.
Takes place in New York? There's a couple of hurdles the storyline might have to overcome, not to mention the cultural differences. I mean, the subway scene for instance. That happens in NYC and someone ends up in a body bag.
This is coming from a non-Asian who had to watch it with subtitles, not that that really makes a difference.

elisha is not as Kooky as jeon ji hyun. cant think of any hollywood actresses who are kooky, feisty, yet charming.
I could imagina Topher Grace playing the lead guy, Or Colin Hanks. They are actually lots of dorky but cute guys in Hollywood

ok, that's dumb... remaking My Sassy Girl. How in the hell would they adapt Asian Cultural references to American... Another one of those ploys Hollywood uses to make more money. Already, I can tell this remake is going to be bad. i.e. "....play an energetic young woman who disrupts the life of a man living in a small Midwestern town in the Yann Samuell-directed film"
-Ok, the guy lived in the "CITY"...
I would set it in a place like... "San Francisco"
tis a wonderful life
Jul 30 2006, 09:21 PM
i'm a bit worried about this one too, yet a bit curious as well. i'm sure i'll watch it but seriously i don't think it can beat the original.

Well they don't give us credit when they plagerize our songs do they??
No!
People have alot of nerve getting mad at america remaking these asian films when alot of asian artists flatout plagerize our music.
Atleast america gets permission

PUAHAHAHAHAHA, I fell over laughing when I read this! It's so true though, I couldn't have said it better myself (this from an Asian American). A lot of people think a bad remake cheapens the original work, but it has as much significance as you attach to it. Personally if I loved a movie so flippin' much I wouldn't
let a bad remake bother me. It should take nothing from what you loved about the original.
Now, onto the remake. I'll watch it for the sake of comparison, but largely because I'd be interested in seeing how they adapt all the Asian concepts and personalities. I liked the original of course, it was great, but people just go
nuts over it.

It's not like Korea encouragess plaglarism.

Look at all the crap that Hyori's getting for copying Britney's song.
But the thing about movie remakes is that they have legal permission.
At least it shows that American producers have acknowleged Korean movies. ^^
And I'm not going to be bias by saying that the original is better...
I personally didn't like the original "My Sassy Girl."
I'll definitely give the remake a try.

Elisha Cuthbert should just stick to making crappy movies like The Girl Next Door & House of Wax. But whatever. I have a bad feeling about this one.

I hate American re-makes of stuff. It's almost as bad as the Taiwanese remakes... oh wait! They're worse. I saw "The Lakehouse" and was like... o___0 because I liked the original way better.
THEY CAN'T DO THIS TO US!! MY SASSY GIRL IS ONE OF MY FAVE KOREAN MOVIES!!! I'll be so pissed off if they screw it up... *fume*
Elisha Cuthbert?
Mmm, I don't know if she can fit the character.
Obviously, the remake won't be as good as the original, but I'll give it a try.
I'll be waiting. :]

i like her being casted...it wasnt sum1 i was expecting like Lohan or Duff...she was good in The Girl Next Door, and she definatley has the cute/mean expression down...
guess we'll wait to see who the guy is...hopefully not Ashton Kutcher, but I would love to see Topher Grace do the role...but I think he's leaning more towards serious roles...Justin Long is another guy who could play the role too...
