Synopsis


Based on the hit comic book by Tomoko Ninomiya, this is a fun-filled quirky romantic story of 2 very opposite people.

Megumi Noda, or “Nodame” is a piano student at Momogaoka College of Music. An extremely talented pianist who wants to be a kindergarten teacher, she prefers playing by ear rather than reading the music score. She is messy and disorganized, takes baths several days apart and loves to eat, sometimes stealing her friend’s lunchbox when it is filled with delicacies.

Shinichi Chiaki, is Momogaoka’s top student. Born into a musical family, he is talented in piano and violin and has secret ambitions to become a conductor. An arrogant multi-lingual perfectionist who once lived abroad in the music capitals of the world as a young boy, he feels mired in Japan because of a childhood phobia.

They meet by accident. Nodame quickly falls in love, but it takes much longer for Chiaki to even begin to appreciate Nodame’s unusual qualities. Their relationship causes them both to develop and grow. Because of Nodame, Chiaki transfers into the Conductor Division, leads a student orchestra and begins to have a broader appreciation of people's musical abilities. Because of Chiaki, Nodame faces her fears and enters a piano competition. Opportunities open up as both begin taking risks, stretching themselves far more than they ever thought possible.

This is my most anticipated drama for the fall season, this and Just one Love . I've been following the manga books from DelRey and thoroughly enjoying every single volume out so far. The comedy is kind of low-key, but it is there, and it works effectively to bring out the relaxed nature of the book. I grabbed the manga book one day when I was bored, but it had turned out to be way better than I had expected. I heard that Nodame Cantabile is quite popular in Japan (okie, maybe not extremely popular like Death Note and that sort, but I believe its popularity is on par with Honey and Clover which is quite famous lately). It's just kind of sad that not many people know of this manga, and thus, this thread is left cold with no comments even after many days.

Okay, after watching the CM, I was like WTH... o.0; I understand that Nodame in the manga is an air-head, clumsy, silly girl who bothers Chiaki, her love, repeatedly but showing him hitting her is just so... disturbing, lols. I noticed in the manga he did hit her a lot, but it never bothered me that much because I never interpreted his hitting as something abusive like the one shown in the CM, lol. Still, I love the cast, I think it's going to be interesting, though I won't keep my expectation high because manga turned live-action tends to not do very well, but what the heck, I enjoy manga and drama all the same, so yeah XD.

I really hope someone would sub this. I love love love Tamaki Hiroshi. Can't wait to watch it, sounds interesting.

hmmm, after knowing it will be made into LA, though i never really read the manga b4 (i read a chapter b4 but wasnt the 1st chapterng) , i read the manga from vol 1. I found it rather interesting. Nodame character is very much alike the female lead (forgot her name) in Keizoku, a very old detective drama series.

But i agree that the part where Chiaki hits her is quite disturbing. What kind of guy would actually hit a girl like that ?!?!

I'm dying for this drama to start! It's the one I've been waiting to see most this season. Awesome cast and there's already a group planning to sub it.

Besides Boku no Aruku Michi and Sailorfuku, this is another of the most anticipated drama for me!

I must say, the hairs of the other 3 characters are outrageous o.0; Except for Masumi's hair which reflects the one in the manga, Mine's and Stresemann's are horrible, eww... That huge wig of a hair on Eita somehow ruins the image of Mine for me -____-; and wth were they thinking giving Stresemann character long blonde hair. Those aside, I'm very happy that the cast seems to get along well, and since this is one of my favs, I can't wait to see it. 6 MORE DAYS TO GO!!!

I love Hiroshi Tamaki.. I hope it good and gets good ratings.

OMG... I love Tamaki Hiroshi's new hair!!! He's sooooo beautiful. Heck, I'll watch this even without the subtitles. I just want to watch it already.

Omo, the first episode was INSANELY hilarious (especially the cleaning part). I'm in love, I'm in love. Can hardly wait for the 2nd episode to air~. It's already my favorite show of this season.

I loved the first episode too XD, and this drama follows the manga almost page by page, which is just awesome. Nodame played by Ueno is just exactly how I imagined Nodame would be. I watched it the first time raw and didn't enjoy it as much, but a second viewing with the subs changed my view on the drama totally. It is one of my favs this season, along with 14-yr-old mother. I can't wait to see the next ep, too bad I think this drama only has 9 eps T____T;

I absolutely love this show. It cracks me up so badly throught the show that I can not help but come to tears once or twice. I didn't find chiaki hitting nodame to be disturbing. I feel that that is what make it soo strange but hilarous at the same time. I am not saying that it is fine for him to be so abusive but his and nodame's weird personality is what giving this show a unique flavor. I especially love those scenes where he just clean her house and wash her hair. They are just too funny together. Can't wait to laugh some more when 2nd eps airs.

I think the manga is finished being released in Japan, but I am not exactly sure. However here in the States, the manga is being released, with the 7th volume being released at the end of this month. I am not sure about the availability in the other countries, though. I hope I helped.

My favorite part in the first episode is when Chiaki-senpai wakes up in Nodame's apartment, and she asks "Do you remember last night?" lol That was so great.

The 2nd ep should be out on Monday in Japan, and it should be up for download on D-addicts a day later or so. This is a weekly drama, it airs every Monday in Japan.

^ Yvonne, you got me so hyped up waiting for the 2nd ep. Even though I knew what is going to happen but I just can't wait to see how they're gonna play those parts on the screen. With the classical music in the background, the drama completes how I imagine things should be like.

Chiaki is a very interesting character, to me, he's just as weird as Nodame-chan XD. He's so serious about everything, and Nodame is so careless, scatterbrained, silly about everything. Together, they complete each other perfectly. The first time I read the manga, it surprised me at how easily the two got along, even from their first encounter. There was absolutely no awkward moments between the two, they fought and got along so well like they were destined to be soulmates or something. No matter how much Chiaki complained about Nodame's presence, he did nothing serious to get rid of her. What I like about this manga/drama is that the two main characters learn from each other bit by bit and change themselves little by little. It's very subtle behind all the wacky humour and slapstick comedy, but it's there and that's why I like it so much.

This is the kind of romantic comedy I need to relax after a stressful day, and after watching heavy drama like 14 sai no hana. I hope the ratings go up up for the 2nd ep .

I watched episode 1 yesterday, it's quite funny so far...i'll continue to drop...the second ep rating is still pretty good though..

really enjoyed the first 2 episodes. it's funny and manga-ish in a different way. Judging from these episodes, this is as good or better than HYD.
i crack up whenever shinichi can't stand nodame's filthiness... esp the part when he started washing her hair and blowing drying it afterwards.

Just finished 1st eps , to be honest I was little hesitated on deciding watch it or not but not I dun't have any regret , this is just HILARIOUS XD~~ can't believe that Juri could play Nodame so well , kyyaaaa , kawaiiiiiiiiiiiiiii ; and Hiroshi , omg his maniac mood hoho >o< !! can't imagine how these 2 got closer that way~ so cutee kakakak Can't wait for next eps sub comes out !!!

yup yup...it was funny for me because both had totally different "view". nodame thought it as a paradise when washing her her and shinchi thought as doctor caring for his patient. haha

for me, ep.2 was all right. i thought the "gay guy" wasn't necessary. or was it in the manga? because i didn't read it and it was just too much for me:blush: u can see in this ep, Shinchi is starting to like Nodame but he doesn't know why. oh and did Nodame kiss the teacher in the end?!

too many dissapointing jdramas and i hope this wont be one ! wtched epi 1 and 2 and its fun! anyway the preview of epi 3 didnt look interesting... whats wif that random gal? i didnt want them to focus only in love, but at least a little bit mor romance... i really wanted to see nodame and chiaki to develop more other then showing useless ppl's scene n story... i really want the story to focus on dem.. biased? yea.. coz chiaki is soo hot and nodame's kind of beauty is growin on me. tthumbs up for the main casts!

The gay guy is also in the manga, and he's one of the main characters. His role as of now isn't very major (nor is it getting any more prominent yet in later volumes of the manga, I don't understand why he's there anyways). As for whether or not Nodame kissed the professor, I don't think she did. It seemed like Stresemann was beaten up at the end (by whom I can't really tell, but Chiaki could be a right candidate, he has got such hot temper), hence his laying on the floor looking all weird, lol .




This manga focuses alot on humour and everyday life activities of music students. Don't worry though, the manga does cover enough romance for you, though the romance between Chiaki and Nodame takes a REALLY long time to develop, and it's really subtle. However, the way I view this manga, it is more these ambitious music students learning to discover their passions and such. The 2nd episode isn't my favorite either. The 2nd ep was taken straight out from the 2nd volume, and so far, the 2nd volume of this manga is my least least favorite book. I almost stopped reading the manga after that 2nd volume, thank god I didn't because the manga got significantly better later on. Even when the 3rd episode's preview didn't look all that good, I still think that I will enjoy it more than the 2nd ep. If you waited patiently, you will see more sweet scenes between Nodame and Chiaki . I love these two characters so much, and yes, I'd love to see the focus on them all the time as well, but that wouldn't be very interesting. To me, the focus on different characters and their interaction do give us more space to reflect on the two main characters, and I think that is important.

*highlight here->> at the end, the professor's mouth is all foamed up.. although the viewers don't actually see the scene (personally, that would be strange/awkward/disgusting) in which Juri and the professor kiss, she DID kiss him, but then her breath was sooooo stinky that she made him foamy at the mouth... does that make sense? LOL maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't that sound right?

^ haha, sou desu ka XD XD... Omg, I missed that completely. I thought about that but dismissed it because well, I just didn't really think that her breath could be THAT bad . Thanks for telling me, though I'd rather want to have this vision of Chiaki beating up Stresemann for Nodame's sake, to protect her, that would be very sweet, hehe... but yeah, it's like wishful thinking, as if Chiaki would do that for poor Nodame XD. That makes me wonder about what would happen later on when Chiaki does kiss Nodame? That would be like a disaster, wouldn't it? Yea, I read a spoiler that Chiaki shall kiss Nodame in one of the later volumes, but if this is going to be the case, poor Chiaki XD. Omg, I can't stop giggling at that thought at all.

no doubt Stressmann suffered the aftermath of the deadly kiss. good thing chiaki didn't agree to her request for the 'prince's kiss' as medicine for her cold.

I think I liked Episode 1 better than Episode 2. I guess I didn't care for the whole storyline of that afro guy liking Chiaki-senpai. Hopefully the thrid episode will be better! However I still love this series!
