Well this is a question.
Would people rather see a 16 upset a #1 in March Madness.
Or
Would you rather see a perfect team get dethroned in the championship game?
I'd rather see the 16 upset #1
Also onto more college basketball stuff. Not that anyone would care. Dan Monson resigned as head coach of the U of M. Hopefully this will mean the U will actually win some games (Minnesota) I heard Flip Saunders was interested in the coaching job there.

I'd like to see both. #16 beats #1 in the Opening round and beats an undefeated team in the Championships.
But if I had to choose one ... I'd like to see a #16 upset a #1.

We suck.... lol... I saw probably the only win we'll have for the next 3 years...
Me and my friend were talking about if Lebron went to college how he would've been a senior this year. Imagine how dominant that team could've been.... Which brings up another point.
Would've you rather seen Kobe gone to Duke, or Lebron go to... wherever....

He would've gone to Akron seriously?
Wow they might've been good....
Anyone see the UCLA & A&M game.
Wow that was amazing.
Also Marist, the school that beat Minnesota briliantly. I've been reading about them, and my thought beforehand was that they're just another bad mid-major school but led by their point guard Jared Jordan. He's really good, 20 points plus and almost 9 assists per game.
Marist after watching them play a couple times is a serious contendor to keep on playing into March. They had 19 wins last season, and it only looks better for them this season with a 7-2 record.

they say that lebron was thinking about going to Akron, with a bunch of his high school teammates because he wanted to pull a Larry Bird, and Akron was like a 30 minute drive from his house. But he wasn't really serious about it.
As for Marist, you really can't consider to be one of the strong mid majors. Yes, I agree, Jordan is a good pg, as a matter of fact, they're entire backcourt is pretty darn good, not NBA, but quite possibly european leagues. But look at the level of competition they have faced. They've faced two top tier division I programs, and they've gone 1-1. And really, Minnesota is a horrible horrible team. They lost to Arkansas, and Ohio, again, not very good teams, and they really haven't beaten anybody of note. I don't think they've beaten anybody in the RPI top 100. Other mid major teams are playing against top quality opponents, and Marist just isn't in there yet. They don't have the resume to be considered one of the top mid major teams.

Well Ohio is like 8-2 or something
And Arkansas only has 1 loss too.
So they aren't terrible teams.
Though yes Marist did kind of get killed by both teams.

UCLA has already reached its peak. The only way to go for them is down. Look for USC to take over the reins.
By the way the wacky Pac-10 is the best conference this year. Look for 6 or 7 invitations for the NCAA's.

^ what do you mean? they have a ridiculous amount of potential, and are deep. the only big flaw against the team is that they are short, but most teams don't have the size to expose it and ucla has the best perimeter defenders in all of college basketball to offset it.
usc on the other hand, has been playing great, but over their heads. they have 3 really good guys on the team, with 2 of them being a freshman, which means they're still young. the rest of the players are throw ins. wait until next year, for the juice, and that's when they'll be talking pac-10 championship. until then you just bide your time and give the younger kids experience for next year.

Well since I was commenting on a post about the future I obviously didn't mean this year.
But even this year USC should give them a dogfight. We already beat them last year when they were better so it isn't out of the question.

USC sure has the potential to beat UCLA, but then again, they were missing Josh Shipp. Hypothetically, he should give them that extra threat that they need on offense to spread the floor, not to mention he's a terrific defender. Of course, these are all "what if's" and having him might not have been a positive thing, so we'll just wait to see if he can return by Feb. 7th.
What UCLA needs though, is more solid depth at the C/PF positions. Lorenzo Mata, Alfred Aboya, and Ryan Wright are all mediocre post players and are often inconsistent. They'll come off good games, then play sub-par games the next.
I can see USC coming on top for an upset sometime soon. They are definitely not lacking in talent, and if they keep their core together with the arrival of OJ Mayo...watch out.

I agree. Next year could really be a turning point in USCs basketball program.
As for UCLA, i think its bad news that they have to go to Keefe for 10 minutes a game. Kid is athletic, but he's no 5. but then again, in college basketball, guards win you championships. I guess they're just biting their lips and waiting for next year when the Love machine makes his way to westwood.

That's an understatement. I'm looking at a championship run next year. And I'm not talking about a Pac-10 championship.
As for UCLA they seem to have a knack for close games. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.

Jan 16 2007, 12:55 PM
i don't see usc making their run just yet. i know oj mayo is good(i've seen him a couple of time, he's simply amazing) but he still needs time to adjust. but really, usc has no bigs. and i know they have taj gibson, but behind him, there's no real substance. you need decent bigs that can rebound and defend, and usc doesn't have that yet. in fact, they have 2 guys over 6-10 and only ndiaye gets significant minutes, and really, he's not that good. i just checked usc's recruiting and they're bringing in 4 guards next year, so tim floyd is actually doing a bad job in recruiting for his team, because he's not going after any bigs. you need a lot to make a good run, like senior leadership, game changing guards, good d, and luck, and usc seems to have most parts, but not all. I'd say they stay in the top 15 all of next year, while breaking into the top 10, but lack of experience and will really hurt the team late in the season, especially in a big and strong pac-10. give them a 2 years, when mayo is a soph and hackett is a junior and i believe they will make a serious run. but before that, they're just too young
Raw
Jan 17 2007, 06:41 AM
I can't understand you calling Mayo simply amazing and at the same time expect him to stay around for his soph year.
Therefore I still think my dream of "doing a Florida" and hold both the basketball and football championships at the same time will be most ripe next year.
gary
Jan 17 2007, 11:55 AM
well, i'm an optimist. and i believe that mayo will be smart enough to wait around for a championship before leaving, because of everything he's said. but yes, you're right, the potential for the condiment man to stay in college for more than on year is slim to none. but you never know what could happen. i mean, early in the year that talk was that mayo was going to challenge the draft rule, because he was held back and is older than average students, but i guess he decided against that and is going to college, so you'll just have to wait and hope he's not a one and done.

yeah, A&M really isn't going to get a #1. You gotta think that Florida, North Carolina, and UCLA have 3 of the 4 locked up. Then you gotta think the last one is between wisconsin or ohio state depending on who wins the big ten tourney. A&M is a solid #2, but the conference just isn't strong enough for them to take a #1 seed away from somebody else.

I went to Cleveland, Nick Young's school so they had many great games in our gym due to their rivalry. I still think Nick was more talented, it's just that Jordan was a hustler, he never gave up. Nick had the tendency to be lazy.

usc a top 15 team? you're kidding me right? one year the trojies do somewhat decent, the fans get on top of their heads. the trojies are one of the most inconsistent teams this year going on and off the polls all season long. usc has a decent pg coming in next year. however, that won't be enough for a national title let alone a pac 10 championship even when assuming when all of the core members return, which is unlikely since stewart will be gone and young a 1st round prospect. Don't forget that other teams will be reloading themselves up with phenomenal talents. ucla will have #1 center kevin love and sg chance stanback playing next year. There is a huge doubt that sc will be the best team in the city of LA. usc will be probably a top 25 team next year, but an NC contender? not even close. be the best team in your own city first, and then maybe we'll talk substance.

A lil disappointed not getting the 1 seed but since they are staying in the west close to home, I think they will be fine. I think we will meet kansas in the elite 8 match up and I predict a coin toss between these two. However, I do give a slight edge to UCLA since they are playing close to home and their fanbase. And once we beat em I think its really anyone's game to win the title. It's gonna be great!

Yup...anything is possible and there is no guarantee in anything. That's the beauty of madness. You have one down game and you might be out. But I like the chances of ucla meeting up with kansas than any other possibility. Anyways, I take UCLA all the way. There are 6 teams that are capable of beating anyone when they are playing their A games...and those are unc, ucla, uf, osu ,georgetwon and kansas in my opinion. among these teams, your guess is good as mine.

ucla is in the right bracket to make it to the final four. the only weakness they have is the interior and kansas isn't a good interior team. the only team with a good interior game is pitt, and the guards are weak and not good shooters, so they can cause turnovers in the perimeter.
and florida got the easiest bracket.
